Trucks, Food, and Firewood.

Yesterday was another day in town. I needed to pick up my truck from the shop, where you should know it was getting a small lift installed with new shocks. We left East Pine at about 10:30am and arrived in Dawson around 11:30pm. I proceed into Swervin Mervin Auto. where I was met by the owner/mechanic Swervin who showed my the truck and what he had done. By the way he also fixed my gear shifter which was slipping. I think thats what I was excitented the most about, wierd eh. Anyway he also told me that my thermostat was leaking and he said we would be able to fix in no time at all, so on Friday I’m heading back in for a couple hours. I thank him greatfully and we left for lunch after lunch I dropped the truck off at Fountain Tire where it “supposedly” got an alignment, but when I got it back the steering wheel was 45* to the right when I went back they were shocked and apologized but said that the mechanic had left. I said thats fine I will be back Friday can I get it fixed then, he told me that was good and I left. That evening I took the shots of the truck, which you can find here on the site or on my Facebook page.

Today though I have not travel near as much. Just from the Kitchen to the living room and back. I, which turned out to be Bev and I attemped to make Caribou Stew for super today and I write this as it simmers in the Kitchen. I will let you know how it tastes and throw up some pictures of our concoction later this evening if it is not too late. After we eat tonight were going to go on the hunt for firewood.

What do you do during you day?

Today is October 21, 2008 today is also Tuesday. I had a pretty plain day, it wasn’t filled with any excitement, it was just another one of my days. My truck is currently in the shop where it is undergoing surgery more or less. It is getting installed the lift components that I purchased in Edmonton and picked up this past weekend. The work is being done in a nice little shop in Dawson Creek, not at nationally known shop but yet have a shot run by local. For some reason I seem to trust this man more than a I would a national company. He seems like an honest man, a hardworking man, someone who’s just working because it’s a way of life. Not to get rich quick, or to try to cheat people out of money but just because he enjoys doing what he does and does it to help everybody else. Hopefully he was able to get all the work done on the truck today and I’m going to go pick it up tomorrow and around lunchtime with Bev and Deb. But that is tomorrow and this is today. After Ken finished work, he wanted to go off and see if he could find a Moose or an Elk. I went off in his truck with him. We drove about half way to Groundbirch and then turned off the road. Up and down we went along the narrow road in search. In search of what, I don’t know because we didn’t see it……whatever it was. We stopped a couple of times and got out and ventured around for a bit. At one point Ken got ahead and I went a different direction and as I walked I listened. Slowly I went a couple steps at a time listening ever so carefully. Waited and watching for anything. I bet you didn’t know that trees spoke; they have stories to tell if you’re willing to be patient and listen. I stood there for awhile appreciating life and the beauty of it and then proceeded on to find Ken. We regrouped and headed back to the highway and then home. Unfortunately we did not get any animals but we did find lots of tree that had been cut down that would be excellent for firewood. But that will be for another day.

My Obsession

I have an obsession, it is with trucks. Not any truck but my truck and trucks like it. 1992-1996 Ford f150. I can’t get enough of them. I love almost everything about them, the way they look, the way they work, and the way they drive. I find they look the best out of any truck those years. The dodge trucks always looked funny to me, it looks like the designer drew a picture of the truck then stretched it length wise and then made that look into the truck. The chevy trucks are like boxes and they looked that same way for over 10 years. You may argue that the fords have that box look as well and they do but there is just a bit more curve appeal in them that makes them look better.

I’ve had two of theses trucks and have loved them both.

First was my first truck actually:

  • Year: 1992
  • Engine: 4.9L In-line 6
  • Model: F150 XL 4×4 Regular Cab
  • Mileage: 269,000km’s
  • Others: about a 6″ Rancho Lift with 33″ Yokohama tires

Second is my current truck:

  • Year: 1995
  • Engine: 5.0L V8
  • F150 XL 4×4 Regular Cab
  • Mileage: 90,000km’s
  • Others: Pioneer player, & Amp, JVC speakers and 12″ sub, Fog lights, CB radio, 31″ All-terrians, 2″ hitch receiver, Soon to come Lift check back for updates.

Edmonton In 6 Hours

This is going to be short and well short. So Saturday moring at 4am we took off to Edmonton, which is a 6 hour drive from the house. We arrived in Edmonton around 11 and set off to the stores that we all need to go to, Dollarama, Lee Valley, House of Tools, Custom Truck Parts, and Arby’s. After we finshed up in Edmonton we headed to an old friend of Ken’s ironicly named Ken for super. It was a really good super, with steak, potatoe, coleslaw and garlic bread. We stayed and chatted for a bit about the construction he was doing on his shop and then we were off again. The 6 hours ride was a blur, I was half asleep, I think?

Got my parts for the truck though and the truck is going in to the shop tomorrow afternoon and it should be done by Tuesday evening but I don’ think I will be able to get to it until Wednesday. But it will be worth the wait.

Shim Shimminy Shim Sharoo….

The last two days have been busy, a good busy of course. On a warm autom Saturday Ken started to build has floor in his shed by leveling the roof, by the time the roof was leveled I dragged myself out of the house to help. Then it was on!……. For about an hour!, then we realized we need some 4×4’s so off we went to Chetwynd Home Hardware. Pizza Hut for lunch Yaha. We got back and got right in to it and worked hard until the wee hours of the afternoon. As the sun was setting we were finishing up the floor and at that very same time….. Ken hurt his back. I know right, your probably thinking ” Fantastic! now they’ll never get teh tin roof done”. So in we went, twas a early night ofr every one. We were sore and stiff, Ken more so than me. I just like to comment that I was sore as well actually having done something labour intensive. Then this morning BAM, Kens doing alright. We finished the last few touches on the floor and while standing staring at the floor……..plans…….slowly……change……..AGAIN……haha. We are now going to build a dividing wall. The room with the floor is now going to be “Ken Supper Dupper Wood Working Room”. Now because the Chetwynd H.H (Home Hardware) is closed on Sunday, off me and Bev went to Dawson to get 17 – 2x4x8’s and 6 sheets 3/8 plywood to begin construction on the wall. Later renamed Kyles wall. All afternoon we measured, cut, measured again, thought about, attempt to cut, cut once more and then finally hammer it in place ( The Bull Moose Brothers are back), it was done. But we mustn’t forget as we were bulding that thing we call a wall, Bev was stuffing the turkey and preparing our Thanksgiving super. Now it being close to 6:30 the turkey should be close to done and we will all be able to sit down and relax after a good day of work.
