Get Back

I live on Twitter for the most part and because of that found that I don’t come over here very often anymore. For some reason I felt that I would need to write a huge blog post here in order for it to be “worth” of actually being here. Most things I say on Twitter so why bother here.

Then it occurred to me, this is mine. This is my site, I can write what ever the hell I wont.

I’m not going to try and update this site more often, with shorter posts, but longer than 140 Charactors. Join me for the ride. 😉

A Cabin Companion

So if you haven’t noticed I have, once again, been a little absent over here.

I am currently sitting in a chair, in front of a fire, in a cabin back in the bush. I had the greatest intentions about coming out here for the weekend. I was going to read a book, listen to some podcasts, go cut some fire wood and of course write. It was going to be a blast, all by myself.

Well things never work out the way you imagine them. It is currently Saturday morning and I have no ambition. I barely made it through the night with the wood I head and instead of going out to cut more I decided to write this. I don’t know how to describe the feeling. I guess it can be called laziness.

Although I’m giving into my own laziness and heading home today, I did do the one thing I had been wanting to do for 2 years. That was to stay the night out here. Next time, which I hope will be in two weeks, I am going to bring a foamy. I may be able to “rough” it but plywood and my back don’t agree.

There is one other reason I feel I have lost ambition out here and that is companionship, a parent is one thing an actual companion is another. I now understand why so many people who wonder out in to the bush have dogs. They may not be great conversationalists, but they still listen…. for the most part. Having a dog would be great, a close friend would be better. Sometimes I feel sorry for the Madtrapper, and think maybe all he needed was a friend. Other times I side with him and think people should have just left him alone.

Well the time has come for me to stop talking about my missory and pack up and head home. I was going to take a bunch of photos but my flash light died so I used the batteries out of my camera.

Tell me, what is something you long for? Mine would be companionship.

Must be Friday

Here I am again, so that must mean it is Friday.

Seems every week that passes by I do less and less. Lets start with last weekend, where once again I ended up out at East Pine. Go figure. All day Saturday we tried to clear a football field behind the house.  We were hoping that when people come out to visit we can have a full on football match. No, don’t believe me. Smart, you have learned well. We were clearing trees though, lots of tree. What we were trying to do was strengthen the satellite Internet signal. Did it work? I have no idea.

On Sunday we had plans to go quading but do to an incorrect part for one of the quads we were unable to go. So what did we do instead? No really, I can’t remember. I am trying to think about it very hard and I just can’t seem to pull it out of my memory. All I seem to be able to remember from Sunday is that I drove home late in the evening. Lets just move on to Monday where I had my first economics class. Ugh. That is all I have to say about Economics, ugh!

The rest of my school week went swiftly. I am enjoying most of my classes. Although it may take me a bit to understand Accounting I really enjoy listening to the instructor. He has definitely been around for a while and has many stories to tell and wisdom to share and is also my Principles of Management instructor. For years he was a local journalist and I would love to pick his brain about what that was like.

I guess that brings us to today. I have once again found myself in Cafe Europa. It is definitely my new hang out spot, I seem to be coming here several times a week. The food is good, the service great and the atmosphere wonderful.

Until next Friday, have a good week. Remember if you want to read my more focused writing you can check out YkOnline and Dawson Online

Scratch that, Take Two.

Remember that Rough Plan I mentioned about a month ago, well that is completely wrong know. I’m actually leaving Yellowknife at 5am July 28. So this is my last night in Yellowknife for 10 months.

It has been a slice but I need to go explore a little more in order to remember why I live in Yellowknife.

Today I spent the entire day running around town and packing. This morning I finally decided it was probably a good idea to renew my insurance and ragistration so off I went. The insurance was easy, all I had to do was phone TD Trust and have them set it up. Getting the registration for my truck was a little longer process. After making sure I had all the proper papers and information (something a lot of people don’t do) I made my way to the DMV. Unfortunately I didn’t get as lucky as I use to be, there was about 20 people ahead of me. I grabbed my number tab and decided to kill some time by wondering the mall all the while checking the time to make sure I wasn’t too long. Once back at the DMV it was a quick 5 minute wait and I was out of there.

Once home I put my mind on packing. First I washed my truck so it was nice and clean in order to get dirty tomorrow, then I slowly started to strategically pack my desk, bed frame, bed, bins of clothes and other junk.

Finally here we are 10om and everything is packed. Picture will be up in a day or too.

I hope to update here every evening as to where I am and what I am doing so make sure to check back.

Out of Yellowknife Vacation – Day 2,3,4

Well I better get on this as I have already let you down with my daily posts of my “eventful” trip.

If you follow me on twitter @the_bushman is will already have a good idea as to what I have been up to in the last couple days but let me fill the rest of you in.

My second day in Edmonton was much like the first. I was up early because I can no longer sleep for more than 6 hours at a time, so I came online until 11am. At that time my friends came and picked me up from my hotel and we grabbed bunch on our way back to the West Edmonton Mall. At the mall I got a new laptop/camera backpack that I quite like, as well I got to go in the Apple store and take in all the nice things that can be found there. I was told I looked completely out of place in the store as I was the only person with a plaid jacket and country look. There is another one of those moments where I feel out of place in this world.

After visiting a couple other stores around town we went to a $3.50 movie theatre and watched Marley and Me. A movie about the life of a untamed dog and his owners. Leaving the movie at about 6pm we decided it was definitely time for supper. Swiss Chalet was decided upon and off we went to find one. Once finding a rather busy one, I was able to enjoy a nice rack of robs with a garlic loaf. Eating that meal was an evening event of its own so when we were finished at the restaurant we all retired to our hotels for a good night sleep before our trek back to BC the next morning.

The Next Morning: Day 3,

Monday was ultimately uneventful except out flat tire while we were trying to leave Edmonton. The flat delayed us almost 2 hour but no matter we were getting out of there one way or another. After the 6.5 hour drive through places like Whitecourt, Valleyview, Grande Prairie, Beaver Lodge, and Dawson Creek we finally arrived at the House just off the highway here in BC. As it wasn’t that late a movie was put on but I was again way to tired and crashed.

Day 4,

After a breakfast of eggs, bacon and potatoes we headed in to Dawson Creek to go grocery shopping as it was direly needed. While heading in to town we quickly stopped by a wee bit of property with a cabin on it 10 minutes out of town that was for sale. A smile comes across my face as my imagination runs wild of the possibilities. Oh one can dream.

That concludes the last 3 days.

I am looking forward to tonights meal of Butcher Block steaks and potatoes.
