Fort St John Summer in one Weekend

Well I know summer is far from over, but it feels like I have experienced the whole thing in one weekend. It felt surreal actually to feel the warmth of the sun in only mid may.

The Weather

The weather here in Fort St John was amazing this weekend. Clear blue skies with a hot sun beating down the whole weekend. 20+ degrees making it feel like it was the middle of July. I still can’t believe it is that warm in the middle of May.

The Air

As per a usual summer, smoke could be smelt in the air. Either winds from fires in Salve Lake or just general burn areas have blown into town. This smell is much sooner in the season that normal. I’m use to fire smoke blowing across Great Slave Lake from southern NWT and Alberta, about mid summer.

The Attire

Just wandering around town people could be seen in shorts, tan tops and the dreadful flip flops. Myself, I rarely wear short, but I had to today. I just could no longer bare the heat. I suppose the sweaters, flannel and jeans might have to go away for a while.

I don’t know if summer is officially hear, or if this is just a glimpse and it will cool down again, but after a long winter we should embrace it.

I have not forgotten.

Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about you. I will never forget about you. It was just a very lazy/busy weekend and I embraced it.

Saturday was full of garage saling(sp), famers market, brunch, and Thor. Then Sunday was a laaaaazzzzyyyy day. I didn’t leave the house until 9pm to go get breakfast for this morning. I watched a lot of movies and ended up on a The Big Bang Theory marathon.

Now it is my favourite day of the week, Monday. I know I’m sick like that. To top it off the weather here in Fort St John is amazing.

Beautiful sky this evening in #yxj.

May Long Weekend

I have decided to not edit over here and give you Kyle, 100% raw. That and I’m sitting on my deck, taking in the sun and can’t see the screen to edit my writing on this site.

Anyways, lets recap this weekend, it seems like a good one. Most of the time I don’t like weekends. More people in the house, I never sleep in, I get bored, etc. This one was different though, and that probably has to do with the fact I was busy for a lot of it.

Saturday was by far the best. I had the opportunity to attend Dave Brosha’s Yellowknife Scenes Workshop, which took us all around Yellowknife and taught me a lot. I have to say Dave does any amazing job teaching and I’m very glad he is willing to share is knowledge. I will have a full write up on YkOnline.ca about my experience and what the workshop was all about. The workshop started at 7:30am and finished at 6pm with drinks at the bar beside his studio. I think I’m going to write more about Dave in the coming days because not only is he an inspiration for photography, but he is also a great motivator. I can’t thank him enough.

Sunday started off as a haze, I felt as though I had a hang over. I slept for 10 hours, 4 more than I normally do, and because of that overslept and had a headache. To try and get rid of the head throbbing I decided it was probably better to get outside rather than work on the computer. I head to the backyard where I started messing around with the 12′ boat we have. The trailer has always been in bad shape, I thought I should try and change that this year. The trailer is a make shift one and is lite enough to be pulled by the smallest of cars. It has 2 runners on it and a rest at the top of the tongue where the nose of the boat sits, which are normally covered in carpet. Well, over the years the retro 70’s carpet which once decked out this trailer is now gone. After removing all the old rusted staples I meant to go out to the dump to find some more carpet, that never happened, I got lazy. Instead I pumped up the flat tire,  hoped it would deflate again and left it for the time being. For the rest of the day Taylor and I took off around town to skate. We ended up at a spot he refers to as the “C ledge”. There he and his “homies” skated while I photographed them. Some photos didn’t turn out to bad, but the sun was in the wrong place and I still need to play with the camera settings more. Of course to finish off Sunday I watched Lost, who didn’t. I feel I need to rewatch it, or have it explained more to me. I feel they finished it, but I’m still a little Lost, for lack of better words. I would really like to see an interview of the writer explaining their thought process of the whole show and finale.

So here we are on Monday, our last day off. I slept better and woke up refreshed, because of that I did do some work. I actually felt in the mood to write, the words were flowing. I started to write up the featured post of Dave’s work shop and made it half way before I realized that there was a bbq event happening at City Hall I wanted to cover. I grabbed my brother and off we went. We went to the BBQ and then to Pilots Monument because I needed some photos for another upcoming post. While down at pilots monument, I got a phone call from someone selling a Truck Camper, which I was looking for, out at Prelude Lake. A spur of the moment decision and we were on our way up the highway. Unfortunately we couldn’t find where this house was, with the camper. We searched everywhere, but it was no where to be found. After phoning them and getting no response and asking the gate keeper of the campground, we gave up and headed back to town.  At least the drive was enjoyable, when we weren’t bouncing all over the place.

That brings us to the now, or at least the now as I write this. The sun is glorious and warm. I am, so, ready for summer.

An Update and Things to do.

Well it is Monday and I go back to work tonight but I need to get somethings done before hand.

  • Figure out what classes I’m going to take at school.
  • Call school register for those classes.
  • Go to NNSL get my %50 off web subscription.
  • Write a YkClassifieds review on YkOnline.
  • Write up a CanLiving post on my Bike.
  • Continue work on the layout of YkOnline.
  • Update clients sites The Rock and SideDoor.
  • Measure and cut foam for seats in my camper.
  • I’m sure I have forgotten something

Over the weekend the Trade Show was on and I was there taking some pictures and meeting new people. It was a really good time and it was good to see so many people coming out. I wrote about it on YkOnline.ca as well as posted some of my pictures.

On Sunday after the trade show, Mothers day lunch, and when the sun finally come back I went out to the Camp Ground and got some spring photos. You can find them all [HERE] and some below.

Maybe I am an Old Man

Maybe I am an old man, I sure do sound it sometimes.

I recently received a text message saying there was going to be a party for someone tonight and then I got it forwarded to me another 2 times. This is not going to be just an ordinary birthday party. This is going to be a topical “young persons” party. There will be excessive drinking, loud music, rough housing, hoot and hollering, a over sized fire and possibly vandalism. Now normally I don’t have a problem with this and occasionally I would even go but that was before things escalated to where they are now and I don’t want to be a part of it.

Like I said I didn’t have a problem with this and by that I mean we use to party out hidden in the bush where we wouldn’t be disturbing anyone and all the stupid stunts were kept to a minimum. Most people were generally calm and nothing was disturbed. Well now I think it has gone to far. Instead of hidden in a bush the party has been moved to a public area where people are passing frequently and someone even lives. Question for you? How would you feel if a group of people were causing a ruckus out in front of your house, probably not happy.

Well these parties that have been happening almost weekly now for the last month were finally noticed by a passer by who called up the RCMP and reported them. So they came and broke up the party and found that thing were being blown up in the fire, in a public place I have to add. Now I’m not just taking lighters or 1 or 2 cans of axe spray I’m talking about something that could rip through the side of a truck and make a big bang.  Potentially hurting hurting someone (that’s not to say lighters and axe cans can’t either). But I guess no one learned as it seems they will be up to there old tricks again this weekend. I mean the first thing that comes to my mind when I think about this is, “okay should we still party there, the cops might be more inclined to checking the spot as they know people have started partying their again” but then again we don’t all think that far ahead.

It is just to much kids play for me and I don’t want anything to do with it. If I have lost a couple of friends writing about this so be it. There is no excuse for it.
