On the Way to the Rockies

Yesterday we were at the Dawson Creek Fair and Rodeo, where I took tons of photos. So when I get a chance I will upload them and display them.

Yesterday was also the start of the Road Trip, where I will be driving through the Rockies and Southern British Colombia. We drove to Grande Prairie from Dawson Creek late last night in order for my father to catch a flight back home early this morning. As he is now gone we will probably stick around GP for a couple hours and stop by some shops. Once we are done that we will head to Jasper, Alberta, which is a 395km drive. There we will spend the night and take in the sites.

Will try and update as often as possible, with pictures as well.

Hope everyone is having a great summer.

Whats Up March 26

So here’s an update as to what the last 2 days have held for me.

Yesterday I certified school by putting a deposit down to hold a seat for me.  Having done that I started looking into finding a place to live down there. Apparently the residences on campus is full so I will have to look in to what other options I have. I’m think a nice bachelor pad in someones basement would be nice. SFA will be the next thing on my list to get done so I can get some funding to go to school as well as live down there.

Today hasn’t been as exciting as yesterday but has its own events worth mentioning. I got an e-mail from work this morning telling me my first shift back is April 5, which being a week and a half away didn’t make me to happy. I have enough money to cover my bills this month but I don’t want to be driving around wasting it while I’m not making any. So unfortunately I will be stuck at home for the time being. The rest of the e-mail informed me that there are now 3 people working the overnight shift which got me really peeved because how in the heck am I suppose to work full time hours when 2 other people are are wanting full time hours as well. I don’t know the details and unfortunately I won’t find out what is going on until Monday. If on Monday I find out I can not work 40 hours a week I will have to quit and move on. I will be leaving Yellowknife in the beginning of August and I have a goal in my head I want to get to so I have a bit stability while I’m down there.

Other than that I have been laying out the finally plans for CanLiving. I was able to get up a proper About Page explaining a bit about what the site is about and how it will work. This will be my first attempt at a topical blog that isn’t all over the place. It may be slow going at first but it will become more reoccurring as I gain momentum.

That’s That.

I will leave you with this quote from a friends friend:

The reason I write it not to entertain, but to get people thinking and to start a conversation.

That is my plan for CanLiving

Around We Go

Yesterday was undoubtably long. We left our camp at 10am which meant we all had been up for at least 3 hours already. The plan was to go to a beach up and round the top of the island but first we had to stop at the small town near the camp to pick up some beach accessories and grab lunch. Once we were back on the road heading up the north shore the sites were beautiful. Although busy we could see tons of beaches and mountains. As we were taking in the views we were also looking for this so called special beach that Randy had picked out. So we kept driving and driving and driving, looking and wondering if maybe we had passed it. Finally after 2 hour and 45 minutes and a confusing route through another small town we arrived at a very nice beach with lots of sand. Most of the guys got wet buggy boarding and crashing into each other.  As the afternoon drew late we all decided it was time to pack it up. It was decided that we should go to Cosco’s to get some lawn chairs, food and other odds and ends, so off we went continuing around the island. The east shoreline was unbelievable, you had a mountain to your right and the ocean on your left. After spending an hour in and around Cosco it was time for supper. Outbacks it was, because it was close and to our surprise they were able to sit all 16 of us rather fast. The service was good and we all enjoyed ourselves but as we were leaving you could tell we were all starting to crash for the day. The drive back I can’t recall very well as I started to nod off to sleep. As we pulled into our camp at about 10pm we had been gone for 12 hour and it could show. We had almost circled the entire island in one day which is completely possible but because we stopped several times seemed like it took forever. There is no denying that we all packed it in when we got back to the camp.

Note* I do have photos but need to be online for longer than five minutes to upload them.

Out of Yellowknife Vacation – Day 2,3,4

Well I better get on this as I have already let you down with my daily posts of my “eventful” trip.

If you follow me on twitter @the_bushman is will already have a good idea as to what I have been up to in the last couple days but let me fill the rest of you in.

My second day in Edmonton was much like the first. I was up early because I can no longer sleep for more than 6 hours at a time, so I came online until 11am. At that time my friends came and picked me up from my hotel and we grabbed bunch on our way back to the West Edmonton Mall. At the mall I got a new laptop/camera backpack that I quite like, as well I got to go in the Apple store and take in all the nice things that can be found there. I was told I looked completely out of place in the store as I was the only person with a plaid jacket and country look. There is another one of those moments where I feel out of place in this world.

After visiting a couple other stores around town we went to a $3.50 movie theatre and watched Marley and Me. A movie about the life of a untamed dog and his owners. Leaving the movie at about 6pm we decided it was definitely time for supper. Swiss Chalet was decided upon and off we went to find one. Once finding a rather busy one, I was able to enjoy a nice rack of robs with a garlic loaf. Eating that meal was an evening event of its own so when we were finished at the restaurant we all retired to our hotels for a good night sleep before our trek back to BC the next morning.

The Next Morning: Day 3,

Monday was ultimately uneventful except out flat tire while we were trying to leave Edmonton. The flat delayed us almost 2 hour but no matter we were getting out of there one way or another. After the 6.5 hour drive through places like Whitecourt, Valleyview, Grande Prairie, Beaver Lodge, and Dawson Creek we finally arrived at the House just off the highway here in BC. As it wasn’t that late a movie was put on but I was again way to tired and crashed.

Day 4,

After a breakfast of eggs, bacon and potatoes we headed in to Dawson Creek to go grocery shopping as it was direly needed. While heading in to town we quickly stopped by a wee bit of property with a cabin on it 10 minutes out of town that was for sale. A smile comes across my face as my imagination runs wild of the possibilities. Oh one can dream.

That concludes the last 3 days.

I am looking forward to tonights meal of Butcher Block steaks and potatoes.
