Must be Friday

Here I am again, so that must mean it is Friday.

Seems every week that passes by I do less and less. Lets start with last weekend, where once again I ended up out at East Pine. Go figure. All day Saturday we tried to clear a football field behind the house.  We were hoping that when people come out to visit we can have a full on football match. No, don’t believe me. Smart, you have learned well. We were clearing trees though, lots of tree. What we were trying to do was strengthen the satellite Internet signal. Did it work? I have no idea.

On Sunday we had plans to go quading but do to an incorrect part for one of the quads we were unable to go. So what did we do instead? No really, I can’t remember. I am trying to think about it very hard and I just can’t seem to pull it out of my memory. All I seem to be able to remember from Sunday is that I drove home late in the evening. Lets just move on to Monday where I had my first economics class. Ugh. That is all I have to say about Economics, ugh!

The rest of my school week went swiftly. I am enjoying most of my classes. Although it may take me a bit to understand Accounting I really enjoy listening to the instructor. He has definitely been around for a while and has many stories to tell and wisdom to share and is also my Principles of Management instructor. For years he was a local journalist and I would love to pick his brain about what that was like.

I guess that brings us to today. I have once again found myself in Cafe Europa. It is definitely my new hang out spot, I seem to be coming here several times a week. The food is good, the service great and the atmosphere wonderful.

Until next Friday, have a good week. Remember if you want to read my more focused writing you can check out YkOnline and Dawson Online

Out of Yellowknife Vacation – Day 2,3,4

Well I better get on this as I have already let you down with my daily posts of my “eventful” trip.

If you follow me on twitter @the_bushman is will already have a good idea as to what I have been up to in the last couple days but let me fill the rest of you in.

My second day in Edmonton was much like the first. I was up early because I can no longer sleep for more than 6 hours at a time, so I came online until 11am. At that time my friends came and picked me up from my hotel and we grabbed bunch on our way back to the West Edmonton Mall. At the mall I got a new laptop/camera backpack that I quite like, as well I got to go in the Apple store and take in all the nice things that can be found there. I was told I looked completely out of place in the store as I was the only person with a plaid jacket and country look. There is another one of those moments where I feel out of place in this world.

After visiting a couple other stores around town we went to a $3.50 movie theatre and watched Marley and Me. A movie about the life of a untamed dog and his owners. Leaving the movie at about 6pm we decided it was definitely time for supper. Swiss Chalet was decided upon and off we went to find one. Once finding a rather busy one, I was able to enjoy a nice rack of robs with a garlic loaf. Eating that meal was an evening event of its own so when we were finished at the restaurant we all retired to our hotels for a good night sleep before our trek back to BC the next morning.

The Next Morning: Day 3,

Monday was ultimately uneventful except out flat tire while we were trying to leave Edmonton. The flat delayed us almost 2 hour but no matter we were getting out of there one way or another. After the 6.5 hour drive through places like Whitecourt, Valleyview, Grande Prairie, Beaver Lodge, and Dawson Creek we finally arrived at the House just off the highway here in BC. As it wasn’t that late a movie was put on but I was again way to tired and crashed.

Day 4,

After a breakfast of eggs, bacon and potatoes we headed in to Dawson Creek to go grocery shopping as it was direly needed. While heading in to town we quickly stopped by a wee bit of property with a cabin on it 10 minutes out of town that was for sale. A smile comes across my face as my imagination runs wild of the possibilities. Oh one can dream.

That concludes the last 3 days.

I am looking forward to tonights meal of Butcher Block steaks and potatoes.

My Drive Home, Part 1, To High Level

I left East Pine Sunday. Sad Day. I left at 5am there time, so 6am Mountain time. I got to Dawson Creek for the last time for awhile, where I wen to MacDonalds for breakfast to go. A Bacon and Egg Bagel got me on my way. I quickly passed the BC/Alberta border and was approching Spirit River when on the left in a field I spotted 4 huge Bull Moose. I have never seem 4 together like that and they were just standing there eating. All I can imagin is the moose from Brother Bear, who happen to be two of my favorite Canadians Bob and Doug MacKenzie “Gots some Back Bacon eh!”. On I carried through Spirit River and in to Rycroft, where I stopped quickly for gas and made one left turn towards Fairview. Before I got there though I went by 11 dear walking through the ditch, just hanging out I guess and then there was the Dunvagin Valley. One of the nicest places on Alberta I think, just a giant crank in the flat prairies. Marvilous. Took my right turn in Fairview not looking back just watching the asphalt in front of me, only stopping for gas. Grimshaw was the gas stop before my mid point of High Level. I thought it was intresting though that gas was 109.9 in Grimshaw and High Level but in between them at Manning it was 119.9 still, didn’t get that one. upon arriving in High Level I went to get lunch first, got my Prime Rib sandwich from Quiznos again and then went to Shell to top up with gas and oil.

To come will be my Intresting journey across the 60th Parellel in to what seemed like a frozen hell at first.

Trucks, Food, and Firewood.

Yesterday was another day in town. I needed to pick up my truck from the shop, where you should know it was getting a small lift installed with new shocks. We left East Pine at about 10:30am and arrived in Dawson around 11:30pm. I proceed into Swervin Mervin Auto. where I was met by the owner/mechanic Swervin who showed my the truck and what he had done. By the way he also fixed my gear shifter which was slipping. I think thats what I was excitented the most about, wierd eh. Anyway he also told me that my thermostat was leaking and he said we would be able to fix in no time at all, so on Friday I’m heading back in for a couple hours. I thank him greatfully and we left for lunch after lunch I dropped the truck off at Fountain Tire where it “supposedly” got an alignment, but when I got it back the steering wheel was 45* to the right when I went back they were shocked and apologized but said that the mechanic had left. I said thats fine I will be back Friday can I get it fixed then, he told me that was good and I left. That evening I took the shots of the truck, which you can find here on the site or on my Facebook page.

Today though I have not travel near as much. Just from the Kitchen to the living room and back. I, which turned out to be Bev and I attemped to make Caribou Stew for super today and I write this as it simmers in the Kitchen. I will let you know how it tastes and throw up some pictures of our concoction later this evening if it is not too late. After we eat tonight were going to go on the hunt for firewood.

New to the Site and Today

Today I added many things to the site today. The Tag Cloud widget, which allows the reads to see what tag’s I have used and depending on the size of the word the more popular it is. Check it out. I changed the the picture widget to a slideshow style, so that I can add more and more pictures and it will not take any more room. Check it out. A big new feature is “Bushman’s Favorite Recipe” page which includes a wack load of recipes. All different kinds, some day I may narrow them down or catigories them for easy referance. Check it out.

Now my day other than the 10 hour I sat on the computer working on this site and others, I spent a little time out side trying to finish the last 2 feet of the shed roof but failed due to strong winds. I was able to help Ken clean up a bit though. Then some how found my way back to the lazy boy I have claimed as my computer chair. Some day I will return to real life.
