My favourite quote about learning

Over the weekend I built a desk and I got a comment that while I work as a project manager in front of a computer during the day, I somehow bake bread at the summer market and now build my own furniture. And I think I can chalk doing these things up to one quote that has always stuck with me by Walt Disney.

Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we’re curious… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

Quote around here however we don t look backwards for very long we keep moving forward opening up new walt disney 224582

For whatever reason it has always resonated with me. It can be interpredend several different ways but when I think of it, I think it means never stop learning and seeking new knowledge.

I was never much for formal education but I LOVE learning. I decided one day to start building websites, I decided I wanted to be a bike mechanic, I was never a strong writer in school, but gosh darn it, I was going to create a blog and keep writing it for almost four years now, I decided I wanted to take photos of people, I decided I wanted to weld again and the list goes on and on.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to spend much time with my uncle growing up, him in Ontario, me in Yellowknife, but when I visit, it is inspiring. He’ll take nothing and turn it into something and I was always fascinated by this.

I believe the only limitation we have is time. There is simply not enough time in the day. And equipment. That’s what made high school so great the access to the equipment.

I encourage other young adults to keep moving forward and opening new doors. I’m happy with where I am at only 23, but I understand the feeling of not knowing what to do. My advice would be to try, try and try again. There is not harm trying something new and if doesn’t work out, then you’ll know.

My first loaves of bread sucked!

Don’t Quote It

I’m a little annoyed about the constant quote streams coming from some people.
Believing that this does not in fact make them wiser people, I see it as fluff so we might buy into you.

Personally I’m more of a STFU and do it type of person. The only person that is really going to inspire me, is me and the outcome I make for myself.

Now I do have mad props for these people that are being quoted, Disney, Einstein, Doc. Those guys were geniuses but they got to where they did by just doing shit. They made several mistakes along the way, and that is where most of the quotes come from, but they eventually succeeded.

So to those who like seeing those quotes, here is mine: “stop what you are doing and go do something productive.” To those who feel the need to post them constantly, go make your own. That’ll gain you more klout.

Quotes to think about

I love Disney and Pixar, they are my favourite. I often times think about the quotes they have in their movies and this got me thinking even more.

I’ll always remember the quote, which is right from Walt Disney himself, that goes something like this “We need to keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” I love this quote and live by it everyday.

The other quote that sticks out at me is one by Tow Mater of Car, which was created by Disney and Pixar, and it goes something like “don’t need to know where I’m going, just need to know where I’ve been.”

I think both quotes are great, but are contradicting. Ones says we should always be looking forward and the other says we should be looking at where we’ve been. This is no big deal and I guess they each have their own place in the world, just thought it was odd.

Thoughts?
