Facebook Deals are in Fort St John

FSJ Facebook Deals

Normally I wouldn’t write about anything technical here on KyleWith.com, I would leave all that on WithMedia.ca, but since this is pertaining to Fort St John, I thought what the heck.

I happened to be Checking-in on Facebook Place this evening when I noticed a little ticket. The ticket was for a Deal that was at Petron Communications, a local business here in FSJ, but also a Telus dealer. If you remember from a blog post I wrote on the Motion Media Blog I wasn’t sure if any of Facebook’s introductory Deals would be in the North. Turns out I was wrong.

So if you have an iPhone already, I’m assuming either a 3Gs or a 4, you can go to Petron, check-in on Facebook Places and get another iPhone 3Gs for free when you sign a 3 year contract.

UPDATE: Fire in the Apartment

Well this is interesting. 12:20am on Thursday I wake up to a fire alarm going off in my apartment. Time to evacuate.

I’m sitting in my truck, on my computer, waiting to see what is going on.

UPDATE: Okay Time for the whole story, since it is 1 AM in the morning now. This evening I decided to stay at work, and finish projects I was doing. This wasn’t totally unusual, but I haven’t done in a while. I didn’t actually arrive at home until about 11 o’clock. At which point I wanted to do a little more work and watch couple videos, while falling asleep. So then comes 12:20 AM, where I’m half asleep.

I see flashing, if there is one thing I am sensitive to it is light, and I start to wake up. as I start to wake up, thank you the noise. It is the noise of an annoying fire alarm.  At first I don’t take it seriously, I sit up, I think about it, and I realize I can hear other people moving outside. That’s when I jumped up and put on a shirt, and pants. And I think, by the way I’m being a really bad example for this, should I take my computer? Well of course, so I quickly grabbed my computer bag which already had my computer in and left the building. First thing I do, jump in the truck and jumped onto twitter.

In about 15 min. 2 fire trucks, fire rescue vehicle, three RCMP and one ambulance were on scene. People were wandering around everywhere wondering what was going on. I sat my truck, blogging and twittering.

Eventually after 20 min. of watching the firefighters go up and down the stairs and through apartments they let everyone go back in. As I was walking back in, I asked one of the firefighters what it was. Turns out someone forgot they were cooking stove and it was a cooking fire. I would like to stress the point that it was 12 midnight, when most are either ready for bed or are at work.

So thanks to some other people in this apartment, I’m now going to be extra tired tomorrow. Good night.

UPDATE 2: According to EnergeticCity.ca the alarm was triggered by someone who forgot about their hot dogs on the stove.

REVIEW: Pizza by the Slice in Fort St John

Not many of the “northern” towns I have lived in, Yellowknife and Fort St John, have Pizza Shops that sell pizza by the slice. It seems like such a simple lunch meal, but not many offer. Yellowknife did have a few joints that sold pizza slices, but in all honesty it was overly greasy and I didn’t think any place in Fort St John did.

I think Fort St John has 5 different establishments that make pizza, Boston Pizza, Domino’s, Panago, Remedies Lounge and Olio’s.  For the last couple months I thought that only made whole pizzas, until I started questioning today on Twitter.

Olio’s is a locally owned small Pizza Shop which does mainly delivering and pickup. The pizza is like no other I have ever had. It is authentic pizza with real ingredients. I have become addicted to them over the last couple months, ordering every couple weeks.

When I asked on Twitter today, many other local users suggested I stop by Olio’s and check. Sure enough when I made my way at lunch they did and for an amazing lunch special.

Olio's Pizza

For only $5.00 you can get a large slice of pizza and a can of pop, no tax. This is my kind of lunch. Two reasons, it is cheaper than my normal lunch and it is portion control.

So if you find yourself in Fort St John, I suggest you try Olio’s Pizza for lunch or anytime.

Eating meat pies

I know it’s hard to believe, but I’ve never actually had a meat pie before. You think a guy like me, who only eats meat, would have tried a meat pie before. I wasn’t sure what to expect, as I don’t like a lot of vegetables. Thankfully when talking to one of the contestants, I learned that meat pies if done properly should only actually have only meat, no vegetables, no rice, and no potatoes. This made my evening experience all that much better knowing that food was catered especially for me.

Meat Pie Line

I don’t think it was catered especially for me, but it was nice to be eating something that I knew I would like. There were at least 12 different meat pies that I was trying to eat. No I wasn’t trying to eat all the meat pies, but trying to test them all.  I did get to test the majority of them before actually became full. Once I tried all the selected ones that I wanted to, I had to vote. Of course I guess you could say I was biased, as I only voted for Lori. She did after all invite us. Thankfully she came in first, well actually it was a tie. But she was first nonetheless.

Plate of Meat Pie

The evening was hosted by well-known Fort St. John family. Their house was just on the outskirts of town just past the  city limits. Their house, was very unique, it was my dream house. Basically it was a giant shop, with the house at one end. There were two  garage doors, where they were driving their vehicles. And then their house was right inside, with an upstairs and downstairs. it was big and open and it was a lot of fun to see something that is so cool. I definitely can say that I would love to build a house like that eventually.

I can’t really judge a meat pie. I’ll basically anything that’s on my plate. I found them all great, and was glad I was invited. Normally I feel a little uneasy about going to events that I don’t know anybody. But this one turned out pretty good everybody was kind, I met a lot of new people and got to talk to a lot of people. I think one day I’m going to have to try to make a meat pie, but that’s all for now.
