3 thing I learned on the first day in a new house

It is approaching 10:30pm Monday evening and I’m comfortably sitting with my feet up, in my favourite chair, in my new bedroom. The walls around me are dark red, like the colour of dried blood, and the temporary sheets on my new queen bed are two different patterns of plaid. It is an odd scene but one I would expect when the space has only been owned by myself for 10 hours.

This is my home, my space, I own it, I will improve it, maintain it and grow with it. But that comes with time. The first thing I would like to do is point out 3 things I noted today whilst moving most of my stuff.

  1. Toilet Paper should be the first thing you move over to your new house. If it isn’t you’ll most likely forget it until the end or when you need it the most. It is strange what we take for granted.
  2. It will most likely rain while you are trying to move. Even when the forecast isn’t calling for it. It will rain.
  3. New House, New Sounds. You have to remember that your big investment isn’t just going to fall apart when the money transfers. Those noises are totally normal.

None of these point have anything to do with actually buying a house, but are points about moving nonetheless.

Here are some photos. Note the bedroom.

Starting the Moving Process

It is a daunting word, process. Processes are scary, but they have to be done and followed.

By now I’m assuming everyone knows that I have accepted a new job with the communications company Kellett Communications and that the job is based in Yellowknife. If you

didn’t know, then you should watch the video found here.

I’m excited I’m heading back to Yellowknife, but not so much that I will be living with my parents for a while. Sure, at 21 years old that is not a big deal, but it is to me. I’mindependent and I like my own living space. Heck I can barely handle roommate, unless I know them. I’m extremely thankful for my parents though and their house.

As I wont have my own place for a little while, the moving process has to be thought out a bit more. Do I take all my furniture or get rid of all of it? If I do take it, where will I store it? These are all questions I’ve had to ask.

I decided to get rid of my two couches, my kitchen table, desk and bed thing my mattress is on. I’m going to keep my lounge chair, because it is awesome, and my brand new bed I bought in August.

Then of course there is all the junk I have collected in the last year and a half. SO MUCH JUNK! I’m glad this apartment has a dumpster outside, because it will be used.

I find moving misleading. The packing of the vehicle or trailer is the easy part, but that is part we often see. What we don’t see if people pulling their hair trying to fit all their belongings in boxes.

I’m glancing around looking at all that needs to be packed and I see: electronics, kitchen ware, food, pictures, cookbooks, clothes and bikes. It sure doesn’t seem like much, but it adds up.

9 Days before the trek north. 9 days to get this small apartment packed and cleaned. 9 days.

Lets face it, I like to move

I must be sick in the head, because I’m on the move again, well actually I have already moved, but lets start at the beginning.

I had been always wanting an apartment or house close to work, so I wouldn’t have to drive my vehicle. Yes I could have walked or rode my bike from where I was, but this place is so much more convenient. Anyways after some restructuring and organizing of the house I was living in and the purchase of a new house for one, 3 out of 4 of us decided we were going to move out.

After plans for a 2 bedroom fell through, I found a small 1 bedroom just 2 blocks from work. I couldn’t not take it, it was perfect for what I needed. Do I some what regret the fact I won’t be living with anyone, yes. Will my social life suffer, probably. But nonetheless I took it.

Here are some photos as I was moving into the place:

It is a nice little joint. It has it quarks and is not the newest building on the block, but I like it and it works. Now if only I could get Shaw here sooner than June 13 to hook up my Internet properly.

Ah, May 1st

What can we say about may first. We are into spring here in Fort St John, I think that is apparent for everyone here. I’m especially shocked with it all, I don’t normally have the pleasure of seeing an early spring summerish time of year.

Lots is happening, don’t ask me to recall any of it because I can’t remember. Things seem to be busy enough I suppose. I guess if I don’t write it means I’m doing something.

Well this is the last month I will be in my current house, I will be moving once again. So that make it the 3rd time I will have to move in 7 months. I guess living with 3 other people wasn’t as cracked up as I thought it would be. That and I think I am a germaphobe.

I’m not entirely sure where I will be moving too, I did look at one place I liked downtown. The catch was it was available May 1st and they won’t hold it for obvious reasons. I’m not sure what happens if it is still available on Monday (May 2nd). Could I get it for June 1st? I can’t afford to rent the place for May, but with it being empty already I don’t know if it is who every wants to move in first or whoever claims it first for June 1st.

I do hope I get that apartment though, it is in a nice location, most of the utilities are provided, it is relatively big, and has an awesome deck.

I don’t like the waiting game when it comes to a place to live. By the way, that photo isn’t really place I want, it was just on Wylio.

Lost in my Mess

Where have you been? Where Huh, because I have been lost in my own mess.

I began packing my room the other day for my move and it is slow going. As I am taking my massive desk I had to clean it out. That is what takes the time. I never know what to throw out and what to keep. Half the stuff in there I haven’t used for over a year. Eventually I got it cleaned out and now I’m in the process of taking it apart to pack.

Seems like every time I need to pack or get rid of stuff the mess just explodes. I go from having lots of floor space to instantly none.

I go back to work tonight so for the next 5 days so I will have limited time to pack everything. Talk about last minute. I will let you know how it goes.
