Dodge is for Farmers, but so is Ford?

Dodge vs FordSo the Super Bowl was the other week and with it all the commercials that cost millions to make. Within the bunch was the Dodge Truck ad. It was an emotional ride – get it – about farmers with the narration “So God made a farmer”. It was a good commercial. One that made you proud of all the men and women that farm. Oh yeah and there was Dodge trucks in the commercial too.

So here we are so many days after the Super Bowl, the Dodge truck commercial has almost 3 million views on Youtube, and I see this post on Facebook from Ford Trucks, with the tag line “Ford’s were made for farmers” linking to this video:

This video posted online 4 days after the Dodge one. Now I might say that this is Ford rebuttal to Dodge’s commercial but when I know how much goes into making a commercial. It is a long process. So it must just be by coincidence that Ford and Dodge both came out with Farmer related video within the same week.

Huh.

The Name, The Meaning

So I call myself The Bushman and this site is also called it. I’m now conflicted, as I do not spend much time out in the “Bush” but yet online. Why did I pick the name? Back in October I had taken the month off work and gone down to live with some friends in Northern BC. There house is out in the country, half hour from any town. We would go hunting, getting firewood, drive our trucks, haul water. You know stuff that needed to be done to sustain living in the middle no where. So when I decided that I wanted to switch to a blog/domain that showed more of who I am The Bushman fit, somewhat. but now I’m presented with this dilemma! I don’t do near as much outdoorsy stuff as I use to, whether that is because of work or the cold weather it doesn’t matter. The name doesn’t really fit. In the summer I probably will go back to my old ways of camping and living out of my camper but that doesn’t mean I’m going to blog about it. When I choose the name Bushman I had the brilliant idea of writing a weekly post on Bushcraft, well you call all see how well that turned out. Instead I write blogging and the latest tech app or gadget.

Currently I love blogging and Internet tech things, such as WordPress, gadgets/apps, and social media so all my topical posts will have something to do with those kind of things. What I need do or figure out is how (because I’m not changing my Domain again. Hassle is way to much for me right now) to associate The Bushman with tech, blogging, Internet, social media, etc. so that I can build on this site. I have to find the write angle, and work it.

Back to me for a second I thought I would mention my thoughts on how I feel torn in two worlds. I hate to stereotype because I don’t know everything and I really shouldn’t and can’t judge, but this is my opinion. I do like the “Blue Collar” way of life, a laboring job, big truck, mudding and greasy from working on it. Listening to my Country Music wearing plaid proudly living out in the country but then there is the other side of me. The side that is is formally dressed, black leather shoes, Navy jacket, shirt tucked in and hair combed. Having the love of computers and tech news, working online hours at end blogging and researching the next post with calmer acoustic music on in the background. In all a formal business and tech savvy person.

I know people from both ends of this spectrum and I know there opinions about the other end. Its almost a disgust as they ask “why would you want to be like that”. I’m afraid to see what would happen when these people collided. Knowing and seeing all this makes me feel socially unaccepted, it drives me nuts because I can’t figure it out. When I bring up something about the opposite end of the spectrum I’m looked at as if I’m stupid!

“Why would you wanna be like one of em nerds, bet they don’t know how ta fix a car to saver er life. Let go to Timmies”

“Ah, they’re such rednecks, I mean look at that broken down gas guzzler. Horrible. Lets go to Starbucks”

Oh so get this I applied to go to school in a town built on the trades to do a Business Program, ironic….

I’m The Bushman.

A Day in the Bush

Today, My dad, myself and 2 friends loaded up 4 snowmobile, 2 trailer, and 3 snowmobile toboggans and headed up the ice road in search of firewood. We went two portages in to Armstrong lake and found a wonder spot to cut down all the dry dead stuff. In 3 hours we quickly cut down all the wood the trailer could take and headed home after a campfire lunch.

It was fun to spend time with everyone and to get to play around in the fresh snow. I am extremely happy about how well the truck and the snowmobile worked pulling the big loads.

Here are some Pictures:

I Think About It

Did you know that I have been out of school for all most a year now. Scary I know. Well recently I have been thinking about it a lot. My future, my past and where I am today. I believe that working over the last year has been an excellent decision. I say decision not because if I wasn’t working I would be lazing around at home, but because if I wasn’t working I would have gone and done some sort of schooling. I think that would have been a bad decision, over the last 4 years I have had no idea what to do in life. Go do a trade in something I don’t really like, go do 2 years getting a degree I don’t want, I had no clue.

Having finished school and not gone right back into it puts you in a simulated version of real life. Yes I worked a full time job and took it on like any other person but I didn’t quite have the same responsibilities at home. No Mortgage, Heat, Electrical bills or even food for that matter, just simply my phone and truck. Deciding to take out some money to buy a semi decent truck at the age of 16 was one of my wonderful learning experiences. I borrowed some money and I had to pay it back plus interest. Okay I will do it and I am doing. At the time I was in school and only working part time so my payments are small and so for that fact 2 years later I’m still paying it but no matter. I have learned many thing with this truck and loan. I learned how to expect the unexpected and how to properly deal with it instead of blaming it on others. Trucks brake, it happens there is nothing we can do about it. I learned how to manage the money I had so if something did happen I was able to get it fixed in a timely manner with out being stranded, now these fixes have been minor but they prepare you for the worst.

Having been thinking about school a lot I realize how much I do miss it. I know they say you don’t know how much you actually liked school until your out of there but I did. School was fun for me, I like challenges. I was by no means paper smart. I didn’t take the top English or Math classes instead I did the Applied classes. In grade 12 I seemed to really do well in them. In my English call I had one of the best teachers in my opinion. For reasons I can’t explain I could just understand him better than other teachers. I shared his views on things, like being on time class. Man, that guys was is my idol. I seemed to always have an answer or an opinion for him. He is who I want to be someday, someone with class and style but still not afraid to get his hands dirty and do anything to get a job done. Thank you Mr.Curren!

Onto math, this was odd. I don’t think I was smarter than anyone else in the class but because for some strange reason I understood it better than the teacher I was able to surpass many of the mates. We were working with these child like workbook and the teacher seemed to not really go through it before teaching our class therefore she was much like us. I would fly through lessons with decent grade and get ahead of the class and then relax.

The reason for me thinking so much about all this lately is that I have decided to more or less go to school in the fall. I am looking in to taking a Business Management course which will only take me one year. It will be a big step for me not because it is school but because I will be going into something I don’t know and I will have to adjust out of my comfort zone for a short while. Not only that, it is a tough decision for me to make about what to go to school for.

It will be fun. “Live life with no regrets”
