Keep This In Mind

Keep this in mind. If you don’t hear from me for a couple days it either means one of two things. Either I’m doing something really really ridiculously fun and don’t have time or the energy to write about it. Or I’m so incredibly bored I can’t think of anything to write.

So either really cool or really bored. Either or. You decide.

Sacchettini with Cream Cheese

Last night I went all out on myself and made some pasta with a special sauce. I have recently come to enjoy making pasta. For a long time I ate a lot of meat as a main potion to a meal, so I have wanted to branch out and try some new things. As I’m still not a big veggie fan, pasta is a good solution.

What I have here is Sacchettini, which are stuffed with chicken and bacon. The pasta was precooked and only took about 5 minutes in the boiling water. Once the pasta was to the tenderness of my desire, which maybe more than average, I drained them and let them cool. By the way, I think this dish by itself with only a little butter would be great. As you bite into this pasta you taste buds exploded as them first taste the slightly salted past and chicken, and then as if it is a surprise in the middle you taste the bacon. The bacon adds that salty good taste we all love.

But I had other plans for this dish. I wanted to make a delightful creamy sauce to mix with the pasta and that is what I did. I have never been a fan of marinara sauce so I took a page from the Philly Cream Cheese commercials and through in a couple spoon fulls of plain cream cheese. I added in the cream cheese once the marinara is already heated up, so that it melts almost as soon as I add it in. The sauce then turns in to a wonderful creamy orange.

Finally place the size portion of pasta you desire on a plate, add the sauce onto the pasta and top with some green onion chives.

This is definitely a dish I’m going to make again.

A Coffee Shop For You

Like the two other towns I have lived in I have found my coffee shop. And by “my coffee shop” I mean a coffee shop in which I feel comfortable sitting and spending time in. In Yellowknife it was, obviously, Gourmet Cup, but I didn’t mind Javaroma either and in Dawson Creek it was Cafe Europa. Both were nice, relatively small and the owners were delightful to deal with.

Now I have found that here in Fort St John at a little shop called Patch Java. The shop was called Cosmic Grounds before new owner Devon Wrigglesworth reopened the space as Patch Java in May of 2010.

I admire owners like Devon, not to say the other coffee shop owners in town are different, I just haven’t met them yet. He is the type of owner that is at the forefront. Always working on the front line, serving customers, socializing and making sure that everyone is satisfied.

With a different lunch special everyday of the week, I don’t think I’m going to get bored of this place. Oh and did I mention the free WiFi, yeah that is good too.

The problem with me and coffee shops is I have the overwhelming urge to get behind the counter and make drinks. Not to boost or anything, but I make a damn good latte and with the proper jug I can even style it with some fancy latte art.

But I digress I’m am glad I have the skills but happy at with where I am currently. Although I do intent to start writing down all the drink special I have in my head. Muddy Snowman, Kyle’s Choc Chip Frozen Mocha, Haystack Latte, and so on.

Then There Was Blood

I hadn’t had a really good nose bleed in a while. That was until about an hour ago when I rinsed off my face at work in the washroom. It must be so dry in here that as soon as there was a bit of moisture on my nose it just started to gush.

This are not over common for me, but are something I make very little of a deal about. Normally I just stick a piece of tissue paper up my nose and carry on with what I’m doing.

In this care, though, that couldn’t be done. There are people around and I don’t think it looks all that great with me having a piece of paper up my nose. So I disappeared outside to tend to it. Of course when I do that I automatically get people asking if I’m alright. Which is fine, but I am really, I just have to wait them out.
