I need to…

Is that the right use of “to”? Anyhow, I need to blog more. I hate having the ambition to, the ideas to, but never actually do. I suppose I am out living my life then, but I want to.

11:39pm I lay in bed thinking this. Wonder what people would want to read about.

Saturday (tomorrow or today depending on publish time) I will be attending a Blog Camp here in Yellowknife. More information can be found HERE.

I admit I’m a little jealous Yellowknife

Today I found out today that Alex and Luke are back in Yellowknife for a couple weeks. Alex and Luke are two friends who have traveled round North America on a road trip powered by Social Media. Needless to say it is a dream of mine. So for two reason I’m a little jealous.

The first being obviously that they are living a dream of mine. I would probably drop everything right now to be able to drive around the country and blog about my journey. I would kill for the opportunity to do what they are doing, but there are to many factors I can’t figure out. The biggest one being money. How do you pay/afford a journey like this.

The second being Alex and Luke are now in Yellowknife for the next two weeks. They will be going around to different places, doing different things, things that I would have loved to do when I was writing YkOnline on a regular basis. I’d still like to do these things in the future, especially since I love Yellowknife so much. It is extremely hard being away from Yellowknife and see Alex and Luke there makes it worst.

I do realize that I must work towards something like this, make it a goal and put them in motion. Time will tell, but for now I’ll be jealous.

I fell of the wagon

I don’t know if I told you, but I’m doing a 365 day blogging challenge. It makes sense, I blog once a day for the whole year. As you can now see, I have not been true to that. While I was in Edmonton this past weekend I missed a day. I blame it mostly on the fact that I was driving from Edmonton to Fort St. John. Nevertheless here I am to write another blog post.

I’m getting back on the wagon with my blogging. So I will tell you what I’m up to at work these days. I am just getting ready to launch a new training session. Each session will have a different topic. But the topics will evolve around social media. They will be two hours an evening, from 7 PM to 9 PM. Topics may include, blogging, basic twitter, advanced twitter and an introduction to Facebook pages.

I still have a lot to learn about these topics, but I feel that I know my stuff now to be able to pass it on to others. I’m a big fan of sharing your passion, and that’s exactly what I’m doing. Even if you don’t believe in social media, it is still worth knowing how to use. I think every business has an opportunity to become a friend.

I will also be helping present two other big social media workshops in the coming month. One in Fort Nelson, BC and the other in Dawson Creek, BC. These are full-day workshops, that offer an introduction to social media and an overview of what they are. They are very informative, but a lot taking for some. I think that everyone who has an interest in social media should join, and not just because I’m giving a presentation.

Since writing this I have also agreed to give a talk on a Chamber of Commerce Mingler here in Fort St John.

Who else is excited for the future?

Blogging About Being Blogged About

I’m not entirely sure if you are suppose to blog about yourself getting blogged about or not, but what the heck.

As you might have noticed, I started doing video recaps of the new CBC show Village on a Diet, which takes place 20 mins from here in Taylor, BC. It is a neat show, with real people and real problems. My videos are uncut and amateur, but also give the perspective from someone who lives in the area and is not in the best of shape either.

Anyways, CBC has taken a real social angle with the show and is engaging a lot with viewers on Twitter, Facebook and their Live Right Now website. They are doing a nice job as well. So well actually that they caught wind of my rinky dink project of recaps and blogged about it.

The post is a short and to the point, but plugs me, not once, not twice, but three times. Not only that but the video is also embedded in the post. And hey, I’m still a kid at heart and it is neat to get recognition. Go check it out for yourself and of course don’t forget to follow my Village on a Diet recaps.

Profiling Resaurants

One of my goals for YkOnline.ca is to profile Yellowknife’s Food Scene. I love food, you have no idea how much I love food. Good food, that is properly repaired, that not only looks amazing but tastes amazing. I’m at the point where I will try anything, anything. My latest kick is mushrooms, sauteed mushrooms to be exact. I could just sit and eat them by themselves. So with my obvious passion of food and even more obvious passion for writing about anything Yellowknife, I want to try and profile our Yellowknife’s Local Eateries.

That being said, I’m not going to review them like a food critic would. I was careful to say “Profile” as I’m not in the business of handing out negative comments. That is not to say I wouldn’t include tips on things that could be improved or something that wasn’t right for me, but the overall feel and appeal of each profile would be positive.

Here is a list of restaurants I would like to profile over the next couple months:

  • Fuego’s International Cuisine
  • The Trader Grill
  • Latitudes
  • Le Frolic
  • Le Hertiage
  • Bullocks Bistro
  • The Wildcat Cafe (when it opens)
  • Coyotes Bar & Grill
  • Diamante

I’m sure I have forgotten some, so please comment them below. Have any suggestions, let me know.

If you are interesting in joining me on this adventure to profile Yellowknife’s restaurants, just give me a holler.
