Starting a Podcast

I decided I would take the bold move and attempt to start a weekly podcast. I tried video but I just couldn’t wrap my head around doing a weekly video so instead I am going to switch to just audio for a bit. Although I will still continue with my random videos every once and a while.

I have been looking since day one for my niche and I have some what settled into writing about Yellowknife, which I enjoy so I figured what better topic for a podcast. In the podcast I hope to talk about some Yellowknife news which would be currently in the headlines as well as Yellowknife’s online community. From those who are on twitter, in the social media club and any other new Yellowknife related site and finds there might be.

What I would love to happen would be for this podcast to become a community “project” where others contribute whether it is just a new website link for Yellowknife they have found or actually coming on the show and sharing what they have found.

I have yet to figure out how to record Skype conversations but am able to use iChat in Garageband for the time being. So if anyone is at all interested in joining me in an episode let me know. Seriously.

Well that’s it for now.

Update, which is long over due

Well folk I suppose I owe you some explanation as to when I have been up too, well here it is.

First I will explain the new name and its reason. The reason I chose I attempt to take a new name was because 1. I wanted something that was the same over almost all sites. Which looks like this one is, except for YouTube. In that case I will use the name kylewithDOTcom. 2. I wanted something that will be with me forever. You see The Bushman is/was a nick name (one which I gave to myself) and like most nick names you grow out of them eventually. So I wanted something that is me, therefore Kyle WiTh was born. See the Wi Th are the first 2 initials of my middle and last name. I thought it was neat it spelt a word so I ran with it. For example when telling someone my website I can say just go to Kyle with dot com and there would be no confusion. I also am using the word With as a business name, which is With Media. Apparently I specialize in Web Development, Design and Marketing, who knew. That is the story behind KyleWiTh.

So with that I had to created several new account, register a new domain name (only $9.95), create another new e-mail address (up to 7 now) and transfer my WordPress blog/files from The Bushman directory to this one. That was a scary process as I didn’t know if I was doing it right but know I do.

I apologize for the absence in both this blog and YkOnline and will be getting posts out semi regularly again tomorrow. I also have a couple idea for YkOnline which may benefit Yellowknife Online as a community so stay tuned.

If there are any spelling or grammar mistakes with in this post, just bite your tongue. It is late and I’m trying to get this out before I fall asleep.

Yesterday had its excitment while I slept

Yesterday was full of 2 interesting findings, even though I slept all day.

The one thing I go excited about was some national recognition YkOnline received. Here is what happened. At about 6pm I got up and opened up my MacBook as I always do and checked my stats for both websites. When I saw that YkOnline had almost tripled the amount of hits it was normally gets I couldn’t believe it. I thought it was weird as the only post I had published in 5 days was about Yellowknife’s Twitter community and didn’t think it would get very much recognition and well I was right. As I scrolled down to see where the hits were being referred from I saw that most of them were coming from Miss604.com. If you don’t know about Miss604, you should check it out. Rebecca Bollwitt blogs about Vancouver and has become very famous do it, needless to say she is an idol of mine. So when I saw all these hits coming from her site, I quickly scrambled over there. I was delightfully surprised to read in one of her latest posts she linked back to YkOnline. Not only that she explained that we (as in Yellowknifers) have TweetUps and have a directory of all the Tweeps. I was so happy to see that not only YkOnline was getting recognized but also our Twitter community.

The other interesting thing about yesterday was what I found on my truck tires. Orange lines, could they be markings done by By-Law Officers. Read my post of YkOnline about what I think.

There you have it.

Lots to do, half asleep

I’m going back to work tonight which means I will be very tired as I will only be running on 3 hours worth of sleep that I tried to get this past pm. I look forward to going back to work as it means I can focus and doing some things online I generally forget to do while I am off due to being outside and about town.

Some of the things I want to get done, if I don’t fall asleep, are:

  • Write a post for this blog
  • Write a couple posts I have in mind for YkOnline
  • Set up a Links page for YkOnline. Links from Blogs to community links to Blogger Profiles.
  • And of course watch some of the season finales that have aired over the last couple days.

We will see how I make out.
