Throw real conversations out the window – Introducing Twitter Ads Canada

I get it Twitter needs to make money but isn’t this contradicting to how businesses should really be using the platform. People don’t want to be targeted, that is what makes Twitter so great. You don’t have to view what you don’t want to. Now the platform itself is telling businesses that it doesn’t need to “engage” with people, it just needs to pay money to get to the right people.

I’m also concern that businesses would now consider this as “doing social media” just like many do with Facebook Ads. No this is not social media, this is targeted advertising, which while effective isn’t generating real relationships with real customers.

Twitter of 2012 [INFOGRAPHIC]

THis was passed on to me today via Twitter (what isn’t it seems these days) and it shows where Twitter is in 2012.  Infographics are great.

It shows Twitter’s numbers, its ups and downs, its celebrities (I couldn’t care less about) and how fast it is growing.

Share around if you’d like

Hello New Twitter

Twitter has released a new design for their website. To get it though they say you have to update you mobile app first. Good call on their part. Do I like the new mobile app? Well that is still up in the air. I don’t know if I like the Mention/Interactions section. I don’t care what others are doing, just who is talking about me. Am I wrong?

KyleWith Background

The new Twitter Design is clean and sleek, I like it. I liked it so much I decided to change my Twitter Background for the first time in a year and a half. I also just changed my avatar for the first time in that long last week.

What do you think of the new Twitter? Who still isn’t on Twitter?

When people finally get Twitter

I think it is facinating when people I know or went to school with finally understand the world of Twitter. Now I’m not saying I’m a veteron of Twitter, but I did join back in 2008, when it was only just catching on in the tech realm.Way back then I quickly learned all the cool things I could do with twitter. Engage in conversations on topics that interested me, follow people I would never otherwise know of, and get the inside scoop as to something that’s happening.

So now 3 years later when I see those people who I never thought would actually get on twitter, on twittering using it, I think it is wonderful. It always makes me feel for some reason like I discovered something myself way before everyone else. Yes it is similar to an ego boost, I actually think it’s a sense of acceptance, knowing you’re doing something that everyone else is doing as well. Now, many people have been using twitter longer than me or as long as me, but seeing those people that you grew up with or round makes it different.

This is a good thing, I wish more people I knew were on twitter. It actually drives me nuts when I see someone who would benefit from twitter or social media not using it. I don’t know why they don’t use it, we all use it in our own different ways right?

Did you ever come across someone on twitter you never thought would be on twitter?

KyleWith on CBC Daybreak North

This morning I had the pleasure of being on CBC’s Daybreak North out of Prince George. I had connected with one of the hosts, Will Fundal, on Twitter about a month earlier. Then through a series of emails and Twitter messages he thought I should come on the show. Our topic was Social Media, specifically Twitter, in the Peace Region but more so in Fort St John. Have a listen:

This is not my first time on the Radio. I remember being on CBC North talking about the iPhone when it first came to Yellowknife, or CJCD during Folk on the Rocks. I don’t get nervous per say, but unsure about whether or not I’m going to screw something up. Radio and Podcasting are very different, with Podcasting it all seems so easy going that if I mess up no matter, but with radio I often feat I stumble.

The one thing I don’t do is re-listen to recording afterward. I don’t want to know how I sound or what I actually said. I know there was lots that I missed and wanted to cover but there is only so much time. When I look back though, we have come a long way here in Fort St John, and the only way is up. Eventually I get around to talking more about how with Facebook and Twitter, Prince George, Dawson Creek, Grande Prairie and Fort St John will seem more connected. Or how businesses can jump in and be the talk of the town.

All this will come. Let me know what your thoughts are on Twitter, Facebook, Fort St John or the interview.
