When people finally get Twitter

I think it is facinating when people I know or went to school with finally understand the world of Twitter. Now I’m not saying I’m a veteron of Twitter, but I did join back in 2008, when it was only just catching on in the tech realm.Way back then I quickly learned all the cool things I could do with twitter. Engage in conversations on topics that interested me, follow people I would never otherwise know of, and get the inside scoop as to something that’s happening.

So now 3 years later when I see those people who I never thought would actually get on twitter, on twittering using it, I think it is wonderful. It always makes me feel for some reason like I discovered something myself way before everyone else. Yes it is similar to an ego boost, I actually think it’s a sense of acceptance, knowing you’re doing something that everyone else is doing as well. Now, many people have been using twitter longer than me or as long as me, but seeing those people that you grew up with or round makes it different.

This is a good thing, I wish more people I knew were on twitter. It actually drives me nuts when I see someone who would benefit from twitter or social media not using it. I don’t know why they don’t use it, we all use it in our own different ways right?

Did you ever come across someone on twitter you never thought would be on twitter?

New Fort St John Skatepark Scene (Part 2)

This is the second Fort St John Skatepark Committee meeting I have attended, they happen every two weeks at the moment. If you look back two weeks ago [HERE], I introduce what is all going on with getting a new, much-needed, skatepark in Fort St John. I also mention why I am involved, even though I don’t actual skate very well.

The meeting tonight covered three main points, presenting to City Council, ideas for the website and the mission statement of the committee.

Presenting to City Council

The presentation will be happening at the August 8th council meeting, which will take place at 3pm at City Hall (everyone should come). The premiss of this presentation will be to ask the City for land for the new skatepark. The committee is able to fundraise to DSC_0230have the new park built, but we need the land to do it. We will be presenting with an ideal space in mind, one that is not only accessible to everyone, but also in a high visibility area. Have it in a high visibility area is one of the key factors we want to see with the new park. By doing this we are hoping it will deter any mischief and mayhem, which isn’t even caused by those who use the current park for what it is intended for.

Bottom line is we want to show City Council and the community as a whole that we are a group of positive, honest people who want to help build a recreational area the community can be proud of (and is comparable to parks like Dawson Creek, Tumbler Ridge and Chetwynd).

Ideas for the Website

This is more my fortay, which I need to deal with, but there is a lot a website can be for a small group. Essentially it can be the face of the group and where all important information is stored.

Some of the ideas we talked about included, have a full on media section where we can showcase the local talent that Fort St John possesses, an area to show all those who have supported the park and group, our mission statement, the latest news, contact info and how anyone can donate.

A few more ideas rolled around for the website and I have a few I want to maul over for a couple of days, then I will begin putting them into action.

Mission Statement

There is not much to say in this area, but we have started to form an official mission statement. The normal stuff, who we are, what we stand for, what we want to accomplish, etc. When it is done it will be displayed on the website like I mentioned.

That pretty much wraps up that meeting. One thing I would like to point out, from a tourism aspect, is that Fort St John is the only community in the Peace Region that doesn’t have a “recently” redeveloped skatepark. The idea we flowed, form the tourism aspect, is if this park is built it will complete a circuit that will draw southern skaters and riders to the area. The speed skating track in the Pomeroy Sport Centre brought skaters from Calgary and Vancouver, why can’t a new skatepark work the same way.

As always “Like” the page on Facebook to follow what is happening and consider attending the August 8th City Council Meeting.

How a Google+ Commenter Annoyed Me

I follow a lot of high profile people (in the social media realm) on Google Plus, and as annoying as they are posting all the time (I’m probably one as well), I still like to read what they have to say.

I rarely participate in the conversation that happens around their posts. The comments are often the same thing over and over and also move way to quickly for me.

There are the rare times when I do actually say something, but of course it gets buried right away, never to be seen again. I don’t care, but apparently some do and desperately want to be seen. Like the fellow in the picture below, who added lines to space out his comment.

Google Plus Commenter

Personally I think this is rude and inconsiderate. It makes the comments look messy and lets be honest does anyone think it will really make a difference. Will the poster, who gets 100+ comments for everything they say, really notice? Probably not.

By the way this is not an aggressively angry post, I’d chalk it up to me always going on about Internet Etiquette

July was a bad month for Food

I think I know enough money people out there, and my father, who will tell me I should account for my spending a little better, but for a while there I was doing really well. Until July.

I was just reviewing my July Visa statement, which I have no problem paying off and I like using my Visa for everything, so I can get the point, but I noticed a lot was spent on food. Sure in the back of my head I knew this as well, but there is a sad realization when I see if on paper – or TD’s mobile app – that I spent more than I normally do.

Normally I would chalk this up to me eating out more, which I have been. With it being summer, I’ve wanted to get out more, but it turns out that means get out of my house and go into a dark pub for a meal. Oddly though that only makes up roughly half of what I have spent on meals, I don’t no exact numbers, the other half is from going to the grocery store and stocking up on food.

Since coming back from Yellowknife in June I have wanted to get more into seeing – see my Food Category – but I needed to get the initials first. You know, like veggies, and meats, etc. Things that I had to buy lots of and would use overtime.

I’m not going to do this though for August, it will be a cheaper month with less eating out and more using what I have in the house. If you have recipe ideas, please send them my way!
