My don’t vote for me campaign, Campaign

Okay, I’ll give you the back story, I was nominated for two categories in the upcoming West Coast Social Media Awards. One for Most Likely to become a Social Media Celebrity and the other for Most Inspiring Social Media User. I suppose I should tell you that I had a hand in nominating myself, it was a coworker. I like to pretend I deserve some recognition though.

The voting just opened up for these nominations yesterday and I started to see a lot of people asking for votes. I consider this to be cheesy, granted this could be just because I’m jealous. Of course I want to come out on top, I feel I’ve made an impact within social media, within the area and think it would be great for some recognition. I’m not saying I deserve it over anyone else, but it is good to feel wanted.

I just don’t want to go around asking people for votes all the time, in my opinion that’s no better than a retail store joining twitter and telling everybody to come in and shop at the store. It just doesn’t seem right to me, it seems like spamy marketing. That’s why I’m running the “don’t vote for me campaign, campaign.”  Of course I don’t really want you not to vote for me, I do, but I don’t want you to vote for me just because I’m asking you to.

I want you to look at me, research me, figure out what I’ve done within the realm of social media and then decide whether you want to vote for me. Before you vote for me I want you to become a friend of mine, say hi to me and get to know me. Ask me why I think I deserve it, ask me how I got my start in social media.

Although I think it would be great to win one of these awards, the real reward for me will be attending Social Media Camp Victoria 2011 and learning and sharing with others.

If you feel I’m worthy of your vote, vote for me, if you don’t think this is true, don’t vote for me.

My Semi Furnished Living Room

When it comes to furnishing on a budget, it can be difficult.  I would love to have a wonderful looking apartment, that is modern and tasteful, but that’s simply not the case on a budget like mine. I have to get clever with piecing together pieces of furniture that I acquire for a relatively decent price.

So the photos below are showing what I pieced together on Sunday when I moved in to my new apartment. As you can see I don’t even have a coffee table, I’m using a Tupperware container beside my chair. The TV stand is a foldable plastic shelf that a friend lent me. Then there is my desk which I thought when I first moved to Fort St. John in the kitchen table which I thought just the other day for this new part.

Of course none of these things actually match, chairs brown, TV stands black, desk is gray and brown in the kitchen table is light brown. You can definitely tell that this was pieced together with little or no money. But I’m proud of myself, and how far it has come without spending a lot of money.

Some editions out like to make our simple things like photos on the wall or even heart pieces. I might be able to find some old posters at a garage sale even. The other thing I would like is a couch. The photos make it look like there is a lot of room, but I actually would only be able to fit a loveseat, possibly.

Fort St John Summer in one Weekend

Well I know summer is far from over, but it feels like I have experienced the whole thing in one weekend. It felt surreal actually to feel the warmth of the sun in only mid may.

The Weather

The weather here in Fort St John was amazing this weekend. Clear blue skies with a hot sun beating down the whole weekend. 20+ degrees making it feel like it was the middle of July. I still can’t believe it is that warm in the middle of May.

The Air

As per a usual summer, smoke could be smelt in the air. Either winds from fires in Salve Lake or just general burn areas have blown into town. This smell is much sooner in the season that normal. I’m use to fire smoke blowing across Great Slave Lake from southern NWT and Alberta, about mid summer.

The Attire

Just wandering around town people could be seen in shorts, tan tops and the dreadful flip flops. Myself, I rarely wear short, but I had to today. I just could no longer bare the heat. I suppose the sweaters, flannel and jeans might have to go away for a while.

I don’t know if summer is officially hear, or if this is just a glimpse and it will cool down again, but after a long winter we should embrace it.

Lets face it, I like to move

I must be sick in the head, because I’m on the move again, well actually I have already moved, but lets start at the beginning.

I had been always wanting an apartment or house close to work, so I wouldn’t have to drive my vehicle. Yes I could have walked or rode my bike from where I was, but this place is so much more convenient. Anyways after some restructuring and organizing of the house I was living in and the purchase of a new house for one, 3 out of 4 of us decided we were going to move out.

After plans for a 2 bedroom fell through, I found a small 1 bedroom just 2 blocks from work. I couldn’t not take it, it was perfect for what I needed. Do I some what regret the fact I won’t be living with anyone, yes. Will my social life suffer, probably. But nonetheless I took it.

Here are some photos as I was moving into the place:

It is a nice little joint. It has it quarks and is not the newest building on the block, but I like it and it works. Now if only I could get Shaw here sooner than June 13 to hook up my Internet properly.
