At Home At Ikea

I guess I forgot to post these photos from my trip to Edmonton a couple weeks back. We of course did the northern thing and visited Ikea, we actually did get a boardroom table for our office. I always enjoy walking through Ikea and dreaming of the possibilities and then looking at prive tags and going “THERE IS NO WHAT IN H*LL” I can afford any of this.

Either way, some of the rooms are neat. They are clean, elegant and modern, something I so desperately want in a home someday. I envision a house – apartment – condo to have all hardwood flooring, stainless steal appliances, a gas stove and to be full automated. That is the big ticket for me, I want to have a highly efficient – green if you will – home that I can control from my phone.

I will get more into my dreams of a home some other time, but for now tell me what your favourite thing to do in Ikea is.

Why can’t I work anywhere!

Earlier today a web development company, much like the one I work for here in Fort St. John put it out on twitter, that they were looking for a web manager. Now I have no idea what that includes, but it did bring up some ideas.

I re-tweeted it and then a lot of other people in Yellowknife were suggesting that I apply. I’m of course torn, I have such a good job down here in Fort St. John and an awesome friend space, although small. This got me thinking a lot about Yellowknife, and I can say that I do dearly miss it.

I miss my family, I think I have to say that. I miss the rocks and the lakes. I miss the atmosphere, the city in a small town. I miss a lot of things about Yellowknife, I do want to go back someday. I just don’t know when that will be.

This got me thinking though, why can’t I go back. Why can’t I do it I’m doing now and work from wherever I want. I decided to take a look at what I do in a day. I answer e-mails, I talk to clients, I act as technical support, I work with websites and I create content. There are other things that I do, but those of the gist of things. From what I can tell most of those things can be done from anywhere, after all we do work in the world of the Internet. With technologies like Skype and GoToMeeting, it should be perfectly possible for me to work remotely. I should be able to Skype consulting calls with clients as needed.

I’m happy with the position I am in at work and I hope my employer is as well. I hope to develop my position in the future, that will allow me to move around as I need to or as I want to. In my line of business I don’t see why I couldn’t have clients all over the world. I truly believe that’s the way this type of business is going. I don’t want to have to situate myself in one location permanently.

It seems like a lot to ask for a 20-year-old, but if I work towards it I don’t see why wouldn’t be possible. – WMRGUMEAJ3HC –

I feel good about my brand

I feel good about my personal brand. Yes, that is what I call my online presence, cause that is what it is. It is the KyleWith brand.

I think I’m getting into the groove of things with it again. I hope to soon, start blogging a couple of times a week from my WithMedia.ca blog, which is more to do with Social Media, Marketing, etc and possibly get into more podcast.

I know, I know it is a lot to promise, and I hate doing it, but at the moment, as 12 midnight quietly approaches I feel good about this.

When I first started working for Motion Media, I was alway stumped by the issue of separating what I write and say from the company perspective and what I can say, when really they are very similar. Now though, I have come to the conclusion that I can say a good majority of it from my own account, cause I know at the end of the day I still work at Motion Media and that is where I work with people (you). I feel as though by me building a stronger brand, I am actually in the long run helping build the brand of Motion Media, in the Social Media area anyways.

Then what do I say from the company account? Well that is where retweeting and talking about what is happening inside the company comes in. I have this idea that we should humanize business, so that is what I want to do. Show, nay, prove that Motion Media is a well put together company, with an amazing team, that does amazing work.

I would love to humanize a company to the point where if someone has a problem with them, they say it to the company and then the company goes forward to fix the issue.

Lots going on, with lots of ideas, but why not check out WithMedia.ca cause I need your help finding some things over there.

Saturday morning breakfast

I would love to have a Saturday morning routine where I go to a favorite coffee shop and have breakfast.
Today I find my self at Whole Wheat and Honey Cafe. I am enjoying Eggs Benny, which is tasty.
My issue with this whole Saturday morning thing, is the Saturday morning thing. I do enjoy being able to lie in bed for a while without having to get up to go somewhere. Although, I am one of those people that if I were to get up and go out for breakfast, I would want to get up early enough that it would feel like lunch.
I think my best alternative is to make it a bi-weekly routine. Cause I do find it nice to be able to blog here in the cafe, which i am doing right now.

Bushpilot Slang

Seems like these Canadian Reality shows really go all out and are really learning how to be interactive. They have taken to twitter and Facebook and are doing a great job at communicating with the audience. What I love is how they’re adding web content, that you never used to be able to find.

What I want to share with you today, is IcePilotsNWT’s  pilot slang webpage.  Although I would call it Bushpilot slang, they want to go along with branding their show. The word Bushpilot has been around for many years, since plane started to fly in Canada. So I would call, this page Bushpilot slang.

The webpage reminds me a lot of urban dictionary. It is organized alphabetically, and has an average of 10 words per letter. Here are some examples:

  • Cabin Fever: Craziness that happens when spring takes too long a coming or if you are cooped up in an aircraft too long.
  • Beaded Up: Worried or excited. Nervous sweat. As in: “The engine started sputtering a bit and he got all beaded up.”
  • My Fun Meter is Pegged: As in: “I am not enjoying this at all.” But also, as in: “Now we’re having fun.” Can be used in any life-threatening situation.
  • Riding Shotgun: Co-pilot or any assistant.

Bush pilot slang

As you might see, a lot of these words archly familiar. We use them in everyday life, they are actually common slang. Heck I know I use them, but maybe that’s because I worked in the aviation industry in Yellowknife before. I do miss those days.

Click on the photo above to check them out, and maybe one day we can have a conversation in Bushpilot slang.
