Hot or Cold make up your mind

Either my apartment is going to drive me nuts or the weather is. I cannot believe that it is January and +1 outside, and that the heat in my apartment is still on.

I’m acclimatized cold-weather. I actually prefer cold-weather. I do not like a hothouse, I would prefer a cool house. Which is why I had my window open in my apartment since October. I have also added a fan to the window, which blows in cold air. One of the problems is that it is no longer cold outside. I am merely blowing in warm air.

The other problem lies within the fact that this apartment is cheap. Not cheap in the sense that they won’t turn on the heat, but cheap in the sense that they won’t actually let me control the heat. Oh they do put in a thermostat, but I think that’s only for effect. I’ve had it off since October and yet is still boiling hot in here all the time.

So now I have a boiling hot apartment and warm weather outside. I’m quite tempted to set up a cot outside to sleep there. I’m actually a little concerned about the summer; what will the weather bring then? Will it be extremely hot outside and inside. Will I have to go live down by the lake, will I have to strut around town in my underwear or maybe I will survive.

Either way, I am meant for the cold weather. I am naturally warm-blooded and heat up like an oven at night. I prefer prancing around in the snow to strolling down a warm beach. I love breathing in the cold air and feeling it hit my lungs, it accelerates me. You could say I’m abnormal, I just like to compare myself the Dexter. When I feel the numbness in my hands coming, I know that they’re still there. When I start to work them harder and harder as I lose feeling, I know that there.

I have not felt real cold in a longtime, I almost miss it. I can recall walking home in -40, with no ski pants on just my normal jeans. I remember my legs going numb and then losing feeling and finally the burning sensation. I would hit them, pat them to see if I could feel anything. Then I would arrive home, the heat would hit. They would slowly come back to life and the burning sensation would continue.

Alas I am no longer in northern Canada. It is January and +1 outside, the snow is melting, the roads are yucky and I find myself not needing a jacket anymore.

I fell of the wagon

I don’t know if I told you, but I’m doing a 365 day blogging challenge. It makes sense, I blog once a day for the whole year. As you can now see, I have not been true to that. While I was in Edmonton this past weekend I missed a day. I blame it mostly on the fact that I was driving from Edmonton to Fort St. John. Nevertheless here I am to write another blog post.

I’m getting back on the wagon with my blogging. So I will tell you what I’m up to at work these days. I am just getting ready to launch a new training session. Each session will have a different topic. But the topics will evolve around social media. They will be two hours an evening, from 7 PM to 9 PM. Topics may include, blogging, basic twitter, advanced twitter and an introduction to Facebook pages.

I still have a lot to learn about these topics, but I feel that I know my stuff now to be able to pass it on to others. I’m a big fan of sharing your passion, and that’s exactly what I’m doing. Even if you don’t believe in social media, it is still worth knowing how to use. I think every business has an opportunity to become a friend.

I will also be helping present two other big social media workshops in the coming month. One in Fort Nelson, BC and the other in Dawson Creek, BC. These are full-day workshops, that offer an introduction to social media and an overview of what they are. They are very informative, but a lot taking for some. I think that everyone who has an interest in social media should join, and not just because I’m giving a presentation.

Since writing this I have also agreed to give a talk on a Chamber of Commerce Mingler here in Fort St John.

Who else is excited for the future?

A tweetup in the making

It has been a long time coming, but I think we’re finally here. Fort St. John will finally see its first tweet up.  This is not an authentic tweetup like I am use to. This tweetup will coincide with this months Synergy Mingler, Synergy being a junior devision of the Fort St John Chamber of Commerce.

The tweetups that I have attended and also had a hand in organizing are more like an afternoon with friends over coffee. We meet in a coffee shop one Sunday afternoon, so even minors can attend.

A tweetup is basically where you have the opportunity to meet those people you talk to online all the time in real life. It is basically a networking event, but I have found more friendships at these types of events than business opportunities.

Ironically before this event became a tweetup I was asked to speak about Social Media at the Mingler. Now I will be speaking to a crowd that might already be on twitter. We will see.

I would also like to have another tweetup, possible next month, on a weekend in the afternoon at a coffee shop.

My Bobcat Rant

Okay  this is my bobcat rant. I don’t know why, but for some reason the guy who operates the Bobcat at the apartment I live in seems to only use it at nine o’clock in the evening. I don’t know why, I think he’s crazy. Would it not make sense to do it during the day when most of the vehicles are not here. He has been doing it consistently for about four days now. I understand there is lots of snow to clear, but seriously please dude why don’t you do it during the day.

I am highly sensitive to both light and noise and you are making a lot of it. Noise not light. This also goes to diesel truck drivers, who think it is necessary to idle their vehicle during the zero temperatures we have.

Oh and back to the guy who’s driving the Bobcat. For some reason the parking lot is getting smaller and smaller, because you keep piling the snow in the middle of it. I don’t know if it takes a genius to figure out the use poster put snow at the side of the parking lot, not in the center where people are supposed to drive.

I apologize to all other Bobcat drivers, I’m sure you do a wonderful job. Thank you for your hard work, but this late night Bobcating needs to stop.

I moved

from my normal location to Edmonton for the weekend.

I suppose I am suppose to dazzle you will a blog post today, informing you of how amazing my life is. Well that is not the case, I’m average today.

Andrew, Mike and I decided to come to Edmonton… Then Jerid, who also works for the company, decided to come, so Mike decided to stay home. So on the drive Andrew and I talk about life, business and possibilities while Jerid read his book.

Finally we arrived in Edmonton to the Delta South Hotel, which for only $120 a night is fancy by my standards. Tomorrow is Ikea, and Apple store in morning and then Coffee Shop working in the afternoon.

It is a nice get away and I alway enjoy the drive as the conversation, which some what serious, always excites me about the possibilities and the future. But alas…. things change….

So from Edmonton, good night.
