What is it I do

Some may know, some may not. I will tell you a bit anyway. I do have my own business called With Media, William Thomas, which is the company behind YkOnline. It is classed as a media Internet company or something like that. When I applied for the business license it was difficult to describe to them then, what it would fall under, but anyways… I am about to apply for the SEED and BDIC funding from the GNWT. Which I may or may not get. In the application process one of the things I have to do, is describe what it is I do and whether or not it can generate enough revenue. This is kind of a funny coincidence because it seems to be a topic among some of us in the blogging realm. I will basically need to describe what blogging – YkOnline – is as well as Podcasting – I have plans to get into this more – and then some multimedia/website building stuff. Thanks to Megan I will use her blog post about explaining these things in plain english.

Either way this goes, it will be good to experience because for the first time since starting all these things, business, podcasting, blogging, I will actually have it down on paper what I do. Not only will it give others the knowledge of what I want to do, but it might give me the clarity and a new perspective of how I want to go about doing it.

Over the next couple day I will start writing all this up for the application and may share some of it here on this blog. To finish off I will leave you with this video, Podcasting in Plain English.

Sunday Afternoon

With Twitter around I never seem to write short posts anymore, but I want that to change. Just for the fact I can go longer than 140 characters.

Sunday afternoons are so relaxing, but what is relaxing for me may not be for you. Here is what I have planned this afternoon, Sunday January 3, 2010.

I am about to head out of the house to see if I can get some photos of the Sun Dogs around the sun. After that I will have lunch with my borther at the Noodle house. To finish off the afternoon I will watch This Week in Tech with Leo Laporte.

There done short. finished.

Out to the Cabin

On boxing day, after my adventure in Walmart, two friends and I went out to a cabin up the Ingraham Trail here in Yellowknife. The cabin is owned by the Yellowknife Scouts, which we were once all a part of and still have a hand in in someway.

Although we only went for one night it was nice to get out of town and just relax. I’d like to say I was able to get away from the distractions of the Internet and technology but upon arriving at the cabin I found the I had full cell service on my iPhone. I was very shock, and well, pleased. We came to the conclusion that whoever deals with the cell network area, whether Bell or NorthweTel, put up another repeater around Prelude Lake, which is near by to where we were.

I took my small camera just for kicks and to give you all a sense of where I was.

Misunderstood

This was all a misunderstanding and I am so happy for that. I talked and wrote about something the other day that wasn’t true, or rather it was misinterpreted. I didn’t mean to get up in arms about it all, I was just caught up in the moment. I apologize for that. I apologize to the reporter, Daron Letts for the way I responded, I have nothing against you, I think you are a great guy and I have nothing against your employer. That is me though, I can not speak for others.

Darron explains the issue and does a very good job doing so here, http://www.snowcoveredhills.com/?p=4266&cpage=1#comment-9307.

I hope we can all move past this bump in the road and get along. I look forward to reading Daron’s review of Jason‘s blog in the new year.

Happy Holidays Everyone.

Where we are at

Last night, after the issue was brought to light, I recieved a call from Daron, the reporter, who spoke with Jason earlier in the day. He did not say anything about what I brought up but asked me about the Blog Awards, which I answered to the best ability. Sorry Megan I didn’t know your Cell phone was working down there. I told him about this blog and we talked about it a little. He told me he wouldn’t mind meeting up sometime in the New Year and then the conversation was done.

The reason I mention Daron’s name is because he posted a comment on my post last night and is going to clarify himself there. I fully respect him for coming forward rather than trying avoid all this. I think Daron is an excellent guy, I met him back in the summer. He does an excellent job covering Yellowknife Entertainment scene. It is very unfortunate that he got caught up in this mess I kept feeding. I hope we can sit down for a coffee sometime in the new year.

I held off informing everyone that I spoke to Daron last night, for only one reason. The discussion that is happening. This topic which we are talking about is not only related to Yellowknife, but also North American and the UK as a whole. How does traditional media deal with new media, how can they work together; it is a topic that interests me very much and something I am constantly reading about. As the conversation that was happening was related to our community of Yellowknife I wanted to see where it would go, and I am very pleased with the response.

Please join in the discussion and also check out the fluff piece in Wednesdays edition of the paper about the NWT Blog Awards.
