View of Fort St John from up top

I had the chance this past Friday to go up top of one of the hotels in Fort St John and take some pictures. I’m use to Yellowknife, where there are large 14 story building and getting to see the sky scape. I think seeing a city from a high up angle can give you a better appreciation of it, unfortunately Fort St John doesn’t have many of those building. The hotel I got to up actually only had 6 stories, which is not much at all

There is no real reason why I took these photos. I’m sure they will be used frequently in the future for various projects though. My view feature Fort St John busiest road in town, 100 Ave, which runs through the heart of town. The reason I went and took the photos on Friday because clouds were presented perfectly. Having nothing but blue sky is beautiful as well, but the clouds add a whole new dimension to the photos, which is what I wanted.  I was shooting in RAW and for the most part in Aperture Priority mode with an f/stop of 11 and ISO of 100-325. Once on the computer I did Tone Map them to bring out shadows and colour.

Sneak Peak of the South Peace

Got to go on a photo adventure this evening to gather some stock photos of the South Peace. Below are only a very few of all the photos I got this evening. I wouldn’t say they are the best, but they are neat nonetheless. I definitely think I need a telephoto lens of some sort for those far off barns, but I make due.

HDR to the Max

Having liked HDR photography for a long time and slowly getting into it, I went a little over and beyond with these photos. Normally I don’t make them so harsh, but this time I kind of liked the way they looked.

I still haven’t mastered the technique, but it is coming along. There are things I want to improve about my HDR photos like quality, definition and colours.

What do you think so far though?

Fort St John All Candidates Forum

I admit I’m a little behind on my post about the Fort St John All Candidates Forum, which took place Thursday April 21, 2011. Even more so I don’t care all that much about politics. I’m not saying it isn’t an important part of being a Canadian, I mean I don’t understand a lot of it and I think a lot of it is useless dribble.

If you do want to read some good blog posts on the All Candidates Forum, Lori Ackerman wrote a good post and so did the Chamber of Commerce President, Andrew Tylosky, who also hosted the evening.

For me the evening about about two things. The first was get an idea of who were the candidates of our area. A bigger part of politics for me is knowing what type of person is representing us. I would like that person to be a genuine one, someone who is somewhat honest and actually cares about the people of the area.

The second was taking photos. I have started to enjoy being a photographer at these events. This time the room was relatively well lit and I used a 50mm and 35mm lens. I believe most of the time I used an ISO between 500-1000, with an aperture of f/2.0

Photography Lesson Over There

Yesterday on the Motion Media Blog I wrote about Real Estate photography, which is something I have been doing a lot of lately. Oddly enough it is actually quite interesting. Every house I capture has something different to offer. Different colours, different challenges. I have to compensate a lot of lighting issues, for example the sun light coming in the windows.

I certainly haven’t master the trade, but I’m coming along. The more and more I do it, the more I understand. The houses I have done are all house for sale and ones that people are moving out of. I’m looking forward to the chance to capture some house that have been recently decorated and renovated. It will be nice to showcase someones hard work.

Anyways head on over to the Motion Media Blog and take a read on the mini tutorial I wrote about what to think about when doing Real Estate Photography.
