Sweet Egg Sandwich

Once a week I like to cook myself something special for breakfast. This week is was an egg sandwich, which doesn’t actually sound all that special. A normal egg sandwich to me, is 2 eggs mixed together with some cheese in a pan, omelet style with bacon in between two pieces of toast.

So what did I do differently this time? Well I made the omelet with cheese, as well as heated up some cooked bacon I had previously cooked. What I did next was simple. When the toast was ready I spread Philly Cream Cheese on one piece and place the egg on top of that. I then spread Sweet Onion Jam on top of the egg, finally placing the bacon and second piece of toast on top. What does that get you? Something that looks like this.

Of course the normal egg sandwich taste good when does right and the egg doesn’t dry out, but when the added flavour it taste amazing. The Philly Cream Cheese adds a creamy cheesy flavour, while the Onion Jam adds a sweet addition to the sandwich. This dish, is recommended.

My Sunday: Food and a Movie

Ah yes I know I still am meant to write about some of the personal things I would like to change and improve about myself before I start back at work, but alas good friends keep popping up with good ideas.

Today’s idea! Go to Uptown Grill for Brunch. I have heard great things about brunch at Uptown and I do love eating there. It is unfortunate that they will be closing down at the end of January. It is really too bad to see a good – caring – local restaurant go out of business for whatever the reason. We are losing a good one here folks. So I will go there this morning.

Then at 12 noon, just incase you though 12 midnight, about 6 of us are going to head to Grande Prairie. We will be caravanning. Taking to vehicles, thankfully both small care that are fuel efficient. Of course there is the obvious reason for heading to Grande Prairie, which is to hit up the big box stores. Although I am not needing anything at the moment, it is always fun to tag along and look. The other reason for going, which is the more important one, is TRON! Yellowknife didn’t get Tron and neither did Fort St John, so we are going to it.

I’m not entirly sure how I feel about the movie. I wasn’t a big fan of the original and I’m not as into it as I am for say Harry Potter, but it looks neat. I mean who doesn’t like flashy lights. If you have seen it, let me know.

My Sunday sounds like a good way to end off a holiday season, what are you up too?

Profiling Resaurants

One of my goals for YkOnline.ca is to profile Yellowknife’s Food Scene. I love food, you have no idea how much I love food. Good food, that is properly repaired, that not only looks amazing but tastes amazing. I’m at the point where I will try anything, anything. My latest kick is mushrooms, sauteed mushrooms to be exact. I could just sit and eat them by themselves. So with my obvious passion of food and even more obvious passion for writing about anything Yellowknife, I want to try and profile our Yellowknife’s Local Eateries.

That being said, I’m not going to review them like a food critic would. I was careful to say “Profile” as I’m not in the business of handing out negative comments. That is not to say I wouldn’t include tips on things that could be improved or something that wasn’t right for me, but the overall feel and appeal of each profile would be positive.

Here is a list of restaurants I would like to profile over the next couple months:

  • Fuego’s International Cuisine
  • The Trader Grill
  • Latitudes
  • Le Frolic
  • Le Hertiage
  • Bullocks Bistro
  • The Wildcat Cafe (when it opens)
  • Coyotes Bar & Grill
  • Diamante

I’m sure I have forgotten some, so please comment them below. Have any suggestions, let me know.

If you are interesting in joining me on this adventure to profile Yellowknife’s restaurants, just give me a holler.
