Oh Deer, Oh My

Deer are very common in the area and I don’t actually like shooting them, because it is hard to be different with them. Unless of course you are 5ft away. I am also breaking one of my rules and posting more than a couple images of similar subjects.

I have found that if you are serious about promoting your work online, you need to only post a few shots at one time, not 30 of the same bird or deer you see on the side of the road.

Anyways, their were 7 deer in this field and a mom and calf close to me. As they were curios about why a man with one giant eye was walking towards them, they started perfectly still.

Karl Johnston first caught my attention with his amazing shots of the Aurora in the area of Fort Smith, NWT. Since then I have watch his career as a Photographer grow.

During our conversation Karl and I talked about how in the last couple years he was worked towards supporting himself a photographer and proper marketing. Even though it can be very difficult, Karl has set out to make sure he is selling his prints. His prints can be seen in Fort Smith, Yellowknife and more to come.

A recent project that Karl has been working on is combining the natural beauty of the Fort Smith, NWT area and the beauty of a human. Check out some his latest work on his website and hear more about Karl, the project, what inspires him and what is next in this episode.

Be sure to check out his website and like his page on Facebook.

Thanks for listening and don’t forget to Subscribe on iTunes or by Email here.

Don’t forget if you know someone doing something interesting (or another photographer or yourself) send me their info, I want to talk to them!

The Dawson Creek Photo Walk Group

We had a group of 9 solid people who came out on October 1, 2011 for the 1st annual Peace Region Photo Walk and 4th annual World Wide Photo Walk. Ross traveled the furthest, coming from High Level, Ab.

Our group was pretty diverse, several with DSLR’s and a few with Point and Shoots. Keep in mind that having a Point and Shoot doesn’t mean you can’t take a good photo. From what I saw, Monica, took one of the best shots of the day with her point and shoot.

Downtown Dawson Creek offered some pretty cool shots. It has such culture of an old town and many back alleys that allow for some rustic shots. Part of me wishes I could have scouted out first, but then again I should work on taking my time and really capturing what I was seeing.

More Lightbox Tests with new Lights

One again I’m back with using a lightbox. Ultimate goal will be for food, but as I have no food at the moment, a mug and shoe will do.

New lights, new setup for the lightbox. This time no above lighting, just two side lights.

Dawson Creek Photo Walk coming soon!

Photo Walk Dawson Creek this Saturday, October 1, 1pm – 4pm. Yes I suppose I am really waiting until the last-minute to promote this, but that is how I roll. Or that is how my memory rolls.

What is a Photo Walk you ask? Well it is when a group of people come together from all skill levels of photography to share the hobby. They go along a pre-set route and talk, learn, teach and take photos. Afterward can all gather and share the photos they took.

This photo walk coming up in Dawson Creek, BC will be apart of the fourth annual World Wide Photo Walk. There will be at least 1000 other photo walks happening on the same day across the globe. The official Dawson Creek photo walk page can be found on the site as well.

I’m personally really excited to go on the walk because I enjoy sharing a hobby with other people and hearing why they love it. It is also a good opportunity to share what I know and hopefully pick up some new tricks

Dawson Creek Photowalk

I hope everyone that is interested in Photography at all comes out to at least meet other. Everyone should also go to the Facebook Event Page and RSVP so we have an idea of the numbers coming. See you there at the Dawson Creek Art Gallery at 1pm!
