A Photo trip on Great Slave Lake

I have come to think one of the things I miss the most about Yellowknife and the north is the lakes. I don’t think I could live next to an ocean, but a fresh water lake I’m all over. I never realized how nice it was to be able to just drive down into Old Town and be right on the shore of Great Slave Lake. There is history down there and there is this peace that comes over me when we set out on the water.

I think space may have something to do with it. There are so many lakes around Yellowknife, it is easy to escape everyone else. Sure you may come across another boat in your favourite fishing spot, but if you go a bay over you will still catch amazing fish. There is nothing like it.

My time in Yellowknife this summer was short, about a week. I’ll miss it, but I was able to get out on the Lake once. Here are some photos of the afternoon.

Yellowknife’s Midnight Light

Since living in Fort St John I have often been asked, how is it I sleep at night when it is always light out. Having grown up in Yellowknife, I had never really thought out it. I slept at night and got up in the morning.

I chalked it up to being like anything else, it is a routine. I tell myself it is time to sleep, so I sleep. I’m assuming it is much the same for those who take naps in the middle of the afternoon or folks that work nightshifts (done this too). Of course I to have tried my hand in different methods of blocking out the light, tinfoil or any other thick material over windows or wearing a mask. Then again, I do the same thing in Fort St John.

Whether it is because I’m out of the normal routine or in Yellowknife or even because I’m an hour different than I normally am, I find I have a slight bit more energy. I woke at 7am and here I am still at 12:30. I do love Yellowknife summers, they compare to nothing.

Fort St John to Yellowknife (Part 1)

I arrived in Yellowknife Wednesday evening. I know you must be wonder why then you haven’t heard from me since before I left Fort St John than. Well, it was seeing family and doing a little bit of work. Seeing family after a couple months is nice and time consuming. I am also out of my element at the moment, so that took sometime to get back into.

I did record talk of myself as I travel 1200kms and this is part 1. I got some photos as well, which I’ll upload later.
