Wanted: Digital Account Manager at KELLETT

A lot of things have gone on in the last 3 months since I started at KELLETT Communications here in Yellowknife. Lots of new challenges have come in the door, the biggest one being the NWT Tourism account, which I’m very excited about.

With this new account within the company we need more talent. Or more so, I need a new awesome co-worker to come work with us on the many projects we have going on.

We are looking for a Digital Account Manager to join our web team here in Yellowknife. Basically it is the same thing as I’m doing. This person would be managing the build of websites from the initial client contact or RFP writing to the design, development and delivery. Additionally they would be managing Social Media Campaigns and helping with digital and web strategies.

Working with the KELLETT team is a lot of fun and one that I’m proud to be apart of. The team is made of our fearless leaders and then a mix of designers, developers, managers and copywriters. Needless to say, when you need to brainstorm something the KELLETT team has enough experience and knowledge to find a solution for everything. I have come to learn that nothing is out of the realm of possible at KELLETT, I’ve already gotten to do many things I never thought I’d get to do.

Then there is Yellowknife, where the job is located. Yes it is in Northern Canada but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have everything you could ever want and more, because it does. All the big name stores you need with great local shops with awesome customer service. Oh yeah and our backyard it huge. Endless lakes and wilderness. Boating, fishing, hiking, biking, camping, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, skiing and kite surfing are just some of the endless activities you can do within seconds of downtown Yellowknife. Trust me, this place is great and I’m proving it on YkOnline.ca.

If this job – full description here – sounds awesome – because it is – and it sounds like something you could do, contact Bill Kellett, our president. He’s a cool guy, he’s on Twitter so tweet him or email him.

Just Good Enough

I love trying to be creative and smart, but at the end of the day the content like videos and blog posts I create are not as good as they could be.

Someone is always doing the same thing better. Yes I know I mustn’t compare myself to others, but seriously who doesn’t.

I often times have ideas in my head for a videos, interviews and blog posts, but 1) I  have a hard time getting the ideas out in to a full thought out piece of content, and 2) when I do make the content if is not up to par for my standards and others. I see others create stuff and I love it, they make it look good and for some reason I can’t do the same, at least to the standards I think it should.

I must continue to remind myself that every time I try something I learn from it. Every time I see something I think looks good I should take tips from it for next time.

When I see something that I think is better than something I have done, I go through a couple different stages. At first I will like it, think it is nice. That I will hate it, and myself thinking about how careless I was about what I created and how someone else is always better. Then I will start becoming more realistic and try and forget about it and move on and take a lesson from it. Finally I come to this stage where I think about what I need to take away from it and apply it to the next time.

Eventually I will know how to look, write, produce and create something that I will be comfortable with. Or rather eventually I will come to grips with myself and not let others bother me.

Slow Week Changes to Dokie

THis past week has been slow at work. I have been working on preparing a Full Day Social Media Workshop. I have to admit this has added a little pressure on me. I will be, for the first time, going to have to prove myself to the folks of Fort St John. Everyone has faith in me, but I am always going to lack a little confidence, and will always be a little nervous.

I have given a couple other presentation, but this time it is slightly different. Instead of doing just one, I will be doing a couple in one day. So I have been working on creating these 40 minute presentations.

I have found it a challenge to get my thoughts and knowledge in order to present them. What I am realizing is that as I work on one presentation I think of something that needs to go in another. Of course then I get distracted with the other one, and it become a circle.

Now the presentations are almost done and I will finalize them this weekend. But tomorrow is going to be a change of pace. Actually it is going to be the opposite from what I have been doing. I will be heading out to the Dokie Wind Project with Andrew to take some photos and video. Should be a lot of fun, especially if I end up a tower.

A Coffee Shop For You

Like the two other towns I have lived in I have found my coffee shop. And by “my coffee shop” I mean a coffee shop in which I feel comfortable sitting and spending time in. In Yellowknife it was, obviously, Gourmet Cup, but I didn’t mind Javaroma either and in Dawson Creek it was Cafe Europa. Both were nice, relatively small and the owners were delightful to deal with.

Now I have found that here in Fort St John at a little shop called Patch Java. The shop was called Cosmic Grounds before new owner Devon Wrigglesworth reopened the space as Patch Java in May of 2010.

I admire owners like Devon, not to say the other coffee shop owners in town are different, I just haven’t met them yet. He is the type of owner that is at the forefront. Always working on the front line, serving customers, socializing and making sure that everyone is satisfied.

With a different lunch special everyday of the week, I don’t think I’m going to get bored of this place. Oh and did I mention the free WiFi, yeah that is good too.

The problem with me and coffee shops is I have the overwhelming urge to get behind the counter and make drinks. Not to boost or anything, but I make a damn good latte and with the proper jug I can even style it with some fancy latte art.

But I digress I’m am glad I have the skills but happy at with where I am currently. Although I do intent to start writing down all the drink special I have in my head. Muddy Snowman, Kyle’s Choc Chip Frozen Mocha, Haystack Latte, and so on.

First Day of Work

So its me first day of work today. Like real work, where I actually make money. It is quite a surreal feeling knowing your getting paid to help people and connect with them.

I’m so happy that I have been able to take what I have learned and apply it to helping people discover new tools and new ways of communication.

It’s funny really, for the first time I don’t feel nervous about something. I feel 100% comfortable. I suffer from anxiety, so this is definitely a sign that I’m doing what I am suppose to be doing and am in the write place.
