How do you explain this thing!

To continue on a series of things I’m bad at I will go on to approaching people.

I don’t know how Journalist do it, I wonder if they learn it in school…. anyways. The challenge I have been prompted with lately is selling YkOnline. I now have the hits and traffic to sustain the site, as long as I continue to write, so I thought it would be a good time to try and sell some advertising. The reason I want to sell adverting is simple, I want to feed this passion. I love writing about Yellowknife and what is going on but it is starting to take up to much time. My problem is I am almost afraid of approaching businesses about it. I don’t know what to say to try and sell it to them. It is a toss up whether or not businesses in this town need another place to advertise. They already have NNSL, CJCD, YkTrader, Coffee Break News and a couple others, so what I would have to do is prove to them that I am different. For some reason I just can’t bring myself to go face to face with them and ask.

Why You Should Be Online

The Internet has rapidly grown over the last 5 years and has become one of our most used business tools. Telephone calls and Faxes have now switched to e-mails and Skype calls. We find e-billing and e-statements not only a greener choice but a simpler one. Libraries, bookstores and magazine racks are slowly disappearing, as online research becomes easier and more accessible.

So, 2 questions you need to ask yourself are: Does your business have a website? Can you be found online?  Can you answer yes to those? If not, here are some reasons why you should be able to.

  1. Do you have Google Juice, are you google-able?This is probably the most important thing, just read Jeff Jarvis’s What Would Google Do book.  How many of us will “Google it” if we……….. Read the Full Article on With Media by Clicking Here

I shall write for you, about me

Well now that I have found a place to sit, I shall write for you. I shall write for you today something more personal, instead of some topical article. I shall write for you because I haven’t in sometime and I feel it has been to long. The main reason I shall write for you today, is because I would like to share something with you. It will most likely be something to do with my life. So now that you understand I shall be writing for you today, I shall begin.

I’m in an odd place in my life, well I always seem to be. I have been searching for the last 2 years. For what, I don’t know. For who, I don’t know. My hope is I find it and them soon.  I will try to explain this as best as I can.

I write a website that is growing and becoming more and more recognized, and I know tons of people in this town (Yellowknife) but still I am missing something. Now the reason for this post is not for pity (I don’t like pity), but it is more to explain how I feel when I’m alone. I know an amazing bunch of people, but the only issue is (I don’t know how to explain this properly) I don’t share that bond that good friends share (You’re all awesome by the way, please don’t take offense to this). I long for someone who shares my passion of things, someone who has an interest in Yellowknife and its community events, understands my passion for social media and maybe most important to me is someone that is relatively close to my own age.  That is a lot, to even imagine, but did you know I can almost guarantee the people and friends I will meet will be at least 10 years older than me. It is bizarre.

Like I said this is not a pity cry, I just wanted to get this down on words. I also understand my problem. It is me! Most of the time my mind is wondering how to do something or how I can make that work or where to find this and that, it never stops. From the second I wake up to the moment I fall asleep, I’m thinking about websites, design, social media, marketing, profiting, how-to’s or scheming how to make back money spent. If I could shut it off for a couple hours a day I would, because I know it affects the people I’m around. I barely have an interest in anything else, except for maybe my vehicles. But on the flip side, I wont push myself to fix my own problems. I say I want to go see live music at the bar or coffee shop but I don’t have anyone to go with, so I won’t go. Which is ultimately like stabbing myself in the foot, if I never go I will never meet anyone like that. Part of that, in my mind anyways, is that I don’t drink, so I rarely ever see the need to go out – or something like that.

I hope some of this makes sense. Maybe I am making this a lot more dramatic than it really is, but this is my blog and I can write want I feel.

No that I have written for you, you should write too. As you are doing that, I am going to go try the French Onion Soup and BLT combo from Tim Hortons.

Bell iPhone GPS Location Problem

I just got off a 1hr 35 minute call with a Bell Rep and here is what we have determined.

As of right now November 5, 2009 5:30pm mountain time they are telling me the iPhone is having a GPS outage. Due to something to do with the satellite, nothing to do with the iPhone it self. There will be a master ticket submitted within Bell asap, which means they know there is a problem and are working on it.

Here is what you need to do. Phone Bell and report the problem. The more numbers they receive the higher up on the list it will climb of problem to look into. This is also Nation Wide, not just Yellowknife. Bell’s Customer Service number is 1-877-328-2123.

I will be in contact with the people at Bell again tomorrow (Nov 6) to find out where the issue is.

Let me know if you are having any problems below. Also tell your friends to come here http://kylewith.com/iphone and leave a comment. The more traffic that is created the more Bell will be pressured to fix the problem.

UPDATE:  For those with the GPS problem, do me a favor and go outside tell me if the Google Maps “My Location” works, spend a good 5 minutes on it. The Rep was telling me that if you test it inside it tries to use the phone IP address NOT the actual GPS. I just tested that theory and it seems he was correct, but that still leave the problem of why the Cell Network thinks we are some where else or wont work. I am going to give them a couple day before phone back.

Michael Jackson ‘This Is It’ Official Movie Trailer

Michael Jackson ‘This Is It’ Official Movie Trailer

You know some people, or maybe most people think very little of MJ because of what has been said about him. But regardless of that, that man changed the music industry forever.
I grew up listening to his music and still to this day don’t get sick of the songs. Correction the only song I can’t really stand is Thriller.

On Wednesday night I’m going to see This Is It, not because I’m a huge fan, but because his music (and dancing) is amazing.
So don’t come at me proclaiming I’m supporting a horrible person, I’m supporting the music and style that inspired many of the great artists we listen to today.

Keep this in mind. With great power, comes great responsibility. You may laugh, but think about it. If MJ didn’t become as big as he did, do you think he would have been in the news as much?
